Conceived as a more compact version of the Oyster 39, the Holman and Pye designed Mariner 35 is a high volume centre cockpit ketch. The spacious aft cabin with a walk around double bed would shame many yachts ten feet longer.

Twenty were built between 1979 and 1982 by Oyster Marine / Landamore Ltd, England. Muhuhu is no.8 of these built, moulded in 1981 she stayed ashore for ten years whilst being completed by the first owner, an accomplished Joiner. First registered in 1991, launched in 1992, her beautiful hardwood interior still looks fantastic, they just don’t build boats like this anymore!
This is a true blue water cruiser, boasting the excellent build quality these old Oysters are renowned for, with many upgrades.

Muhuhu has been with her 3rd owners for 7 years, and has sailed extensively between the UK and the Mediterranean. Her current owners are selling her only due to taking on a project in the UK, which will demand all their time. Muhuhu therefore deserves new custodians who will get full use from her.

She has an extensive professionally installed Victron electrical system, 6kva inverters, 20kWh 48V lithium batteries, 2.6kW solar. 32A shore power.
Her propulsion system is a well proven 15kW indirect cooled Bellmarine electric motor, with Paguro range extender generator, spinning a bruntons autoprop via pythondrive thrust bearing CV shaft assembly.

Technical Overview

In the last 7 years she’s benefited from extensive and continuous ongoing refit, including a complete electrical and mechanical refurb, new canvas, new ground tackle, 48V 1500w anchor windlass.

She has a professionally installed and very capable 15kW liquid cooled electric propulsion system, and has since covered over 6000nm without an engine! Including 3000nm in the mediterranean. She can motor at 3 knots under solar power alone without discharging batteries. Gets 4 knots from 3.5kW in good conditions. Motorsailing is revolutionized with silent electric propulsion, she can motor sail for days and has the ability to regen using the prop and motor in a good breeze.

We've just installed a range extender generator to create a versatile serial hybrid diesel electric system, with all the benefits of silent electric propulsion and the high energy density of diesel. This was actually the original intention when she was first converted to electric, but it has seldom been needed so far, and is equipped now for all year round off-grid capabilities.
Electric propulsion, generator, cooling, and ancillary systems are in the central motor bay. There is excellent access to the motor bay from both the galley and the bosuns locker.
Most plumbing systems are in the adjacent bosuns locker, which is 6ft deep, with steps into, space for many spare warps and sheets, fenders etc, plus there is space for a packed dinghy or wingfoil gear.
20kWh Victron batteries are behind the companionway steps.

All seacocks are Blakes and had new best quality phosphor bronze fastenings in 2020 when they were all fully refurbished and reinstalled.
The second heads, located between aft cabin and galley walk through, was converted to a tool cupboard and storage. Could be easily converted back to 2nd heads if desired.

The hull was epoxy coated from new, and was coppercoated in 2019.
Gelcoat topsides are in fair condition for age.
Cockpit and deck gelcoat in fair condition.
Deck has never had teak, no screws, excellent condition.

Depending on the needs of the new owner, she could easily be refitted with a small deisel engine again, and 48V alternator. And all the power electronics would work as they are. But we suspect that the hybrid system would work well for most folks, even if they are not accomplished sailors, as we have found that typically more energy is used for domestic functions onboard, not motoring.
