Performance-oriented yet user-friendly, the Philippe Briand-designed Sun Odyssey 49i differs from her regular Jeannneau cousins by featuring an injection-moulded deck denoted by the "i" suffix for improved strength and reduced weight, a powerful, yet easily managed fractional sloop rig and a sporty 2.15m bulbed fin keel.

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:
Monolithic hand-laid fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) hull
ISO gelcoat surface finish
Kevlar reinforcement integrated into the bow and forward bulkhead sections for enhanced impact resistance.
The deck employs a resin-injected Prisma Process construction with discontinuous balsa wood coring for lightness and rigidity, also finished with ISO gelcoat, and includes hard wood inserts under high-load fittings.
The hull-to-deck joint secured via polyurethane sealant and an inboard flange bolted connection.
