In summer 2026, my wife and I completed a three-month, 1,500-nautical-mile voyage around the Western Mediterranean onboard Waiata. Before purchasing her, we spent extensive time evaluating alternatives from HH, Balance, and Outremer. Ultimately, we believe there are three key qualities that set Waiata apart from other catamarans. Firstly, the home-like comfort. From the full-scale galley –which should really be called a kitchen– to the plentiful storage, spacious indoor and outdoor seating areas, refined Italian cabinetry, and full-size showers, we never miss a single comfort of home. Secondly, she sails fast and –most importantly for us– sails exceptionally well in light breeze. In as little as 5 knots of true wind, we unroll the Code 0 and match wind speed, while every other sailboat is motoring. Lastly, we truly feel part of a family. The shipyard’s founders are incredibly accessible and responsive, while the active community of fellow owners offers a great network for sharing insights on maintenance, boat upgrades, and cruising destinations.

Waiata is hull number four of the eleven catamarans hand-crafted so far by Itacatamarans in Fano, Italy. A semi-custom 50-foot performance cruiser that sails at wind speed, manoeuvres in silence, and offers full domestic comfort. Waiata is fully turn-key and ready for her next owner.
