Notes

2007 Kittiwake 16, DKK 50,000

The Kittiwake 16 is built by Roger Wilkinson of Kittiwake Boats (located just south of Manchester in Macclesfield, Cheshire) is highly regarded as a high-quality, traditionally styled trailer-sailer.
The company specialized in building "modern classic" pocket boats ranging from 14 to 20 feet, combining low-maintenance fiberglass hulls with beautiful, rich wood finishes.

Architectural & Design Overview
The Hull: The boat features a GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) hull molded with simulated clinker planks to give it the timeless appearance of a traditional lapstrake wooden boat.
Woodwork Trim: The interior and deck detailing are heavily fit out in timber, typically utilizing solid mahogany for the gunwales, thwarts, and internal seating, paired with Canadian pine or spruce spars.
Underbody: It utilizes a heavy-duty galvanized iron centerplate (centerboard) and a lifting wooden rudder, allowing the boat to navigate ultra-shallow estuaries or be driven straight up onto a beach.

Rig and Sailing Character
The Kittiwake 16 is rigged as a classic gaff yawl. It features a main mast stepping forward, flying a gaff mainsail and a jib on a small bowsprit, paired with a small un-stayed mizzen mast at the stern flying a leg-o'-mutton or lug sail.
The purpose of this setup is ultimate balance and family safety. Owners highly praise its handling because it can be tuned to sail with zero weather helm. If a sudden squall hits, the skipper can drop the mainsail entirely and comfortably control the boat using just the jib and mizzen.

Intended Use
Kittiwake Boats explicitly designed the 16 as an ideal family day-boat and holiday cruiser. It has a deep, safe, and spacious open cockpit rather than a cramped cabin, leaving plenty of room for 4 to 6 adults to sit comfortably inside the safety of the coamings.
Because of its lightweight construction relative to its size, it remains highly manageable on a standard single-axle road trailer and can be quickly rigged, launched, and retrieved by two people at a public slipway.
