Moody Sailing Yachts for Sale

Yachts with character

Moody Logo

Moody sailing yachts have always had that certain something. To this day, "Moodys" are defined by the consistent use of a proven brand name. After all, the family business (seven generations in the same hands) was sold to the Hanse Yachts shipyard group long ago. Quality and performance have remained unchanged ever since – see for yourself at Boat24.

Moody

The shipyard's origins date back to the 19th century. Today, Moody is a brand that stands for luxurious yachts with a distinctive design and strong sailing performance.

Safe, confident sailing

Even the models from the early years were praised for their seaworthiness. An image that still holds true today.

A unique premium brand

Moody yachts are essentially a prime example of how a tradition-rich brand with a strong image can be used consistently. The original shipyard has long since ceased to exist and produce – yet the brand name still stands for the highest quality and that "slightly different" sailing style.
Boatbuilder John Moody founded the yard in 1827 in the English fishing village of Swanwick. There, with a small team, he repaired and overhauled fishing boats. It was only after his son Alexander took over that the yard also built its first (sailing) dinghies, which were used among other things as tenders for larger yachts. Not until 1935 did the yard start building larger wooden sailing yachts, which became known for their exceptional lines and good sailing performance. Over the following decades, the yard was steadily expanded and a marina of its own was built.

400 yachts a year

From the mid-1960s on, the yard – still in the hands of the Moody family – produced its first series-built GRP sailing yachts. The then-new material and the creative collaboration with the designer duo Dixon/Primrose soon made the yard one of the best known and most successful in Europe. Joining forces with other yards opened up a far larger, international sales network for Moody. Up to 400 sailing yachts between 27 and 64 feet in length were built per year. By 2003, the yard had built 39 models, some of them internationally award-winning, and sold around 4,500 boats.
In 2005, the founding Moody family (the 7th generation of the company) sold the business, and a year later production of Moody yachts was discontinued. In 2007, Hanse Yachts acquired the brand rights and has since been building ocean-going luxury yachts in Greifswald under the traditional name.

Declared dead – and brought back to life

In this way, the image of an old brand long declared dead was skilfully reintegrated into the modern market. Today, Moody yachts stand for luxury on the high seas. With their modern deck saloon concept, unique worldwide, or the classic aft cockpit design as a nod to times gone by, they offer (without exaggeration) the right yacht for every lifestyle. You just need the necessary funds: there's a reason Moody yachts are categorized in the "luxury" segment. And that can get expensive – on the used market, too!
