The shipyard in Giebelstadt has been through a number of ups and downs since it was founded. Although sailing yachts remain by far the bigger source of revenue for the yard, the motor yachts within the Bavaria model range have become indispensable, above all as image builders. Excellent materials, equipment and craftsmanship guarantee plenty of enjoyment on the water.
Ups and downs
After a US financial investor took over the company from its founders in 2007, the economic crisis of 2008/09 caused severe losses in revenue. Following a debt restructuring, the shipyard was handed over to two US hedge funds.
In 2010, the Italian yard Cantiere del Prado was acquired along with the Dufour and Grand Soleil brands, and in 2014 the French catamaran manufacturer Nautitech was added. Despite a now broad model range that was able to serve many target groups, the company's capacities were not fully utilized – in 2018 it filed for insolvency. For a transitional period, Bavaria continued to operate under self-administration and with the dedicated commitment of its employees.
New investor – new course
At the end of 2018, Bavaria was taken over by the financial investor CMP, which managed to get the then insolvent producer of motor and sailing yachts back "on course" with a fundamental overhaul of its manufacturing processes and new boat models.
