Sea Ray

Few other large-scale boatbuilders manage what Sea Ray does: launching plenty of innovations despite high production numbers while maintaining a remarkably high build quality

It's unmistakable that Sea Ray designs were conceived in the USA. Even though production now takes place at a European plant and (according to the yard) the wishes of European customers are explicitly taken into account, it's still clear that Sea Ray boats represent the "American Way of Watersports".
And that's a good thing, because like hardly any other yard, Sea Ray has managed to establish itself on the European market with thoroughly American designs and concepts.

Boom of the fifties

Sea Ray was founded in 1959 by Cornelius "Connie" Ray III in Oxford, Michigan. At the time, a genuine watersports boom was sweeping the USA. Sea Ray immediately set new standards in the scene and was one of the first manufacturers worldwide to build leisure boats from fiberglass. As was common in the USA back then, design and equipment were modeled on the likewise booming automotive industry.

By 1986, Sea Ray was already the world's largest manufacturer of powerboats for sport and leisure. That made Sea Ray a highly attractive investment – the Brunswick Group bought the yard for a hefty 350 million dollars. Even then, Sea Ray was producing up to 28,000 boats a year.

Today, parts of the SPX, Sport, Sun Sport, SLX, SDX and Sport Cruiser product groups are built in Europe. Long transport routes are eliminated, production is "closer to the market", and European trends can (according to the yard) be picked up and implemented more effectively.

More than 30,000 boats a year

As early as 1969, Sea Ray revolutionized the speedboat scene with the strikingly slender "Pachanga" model. Another highlight, according to the yard, is the "Sky Flow Design" – a cruiser galley beneath a transparent roof: the "great freedom" of cooking under a seemingly open sky …
As one of the first manufacturers in the world, Sea Ray addressed the particular needs of surfers and, with the "Active Trim Control" feature, managed to generate relatively large stern waves even at calm cruising speeds.

The boats, ranging from 19 to 65 feet, are available with various additional packages and can be individually configured by the first owner.

Setting the tone in (almost) the entire market

Apart from a few Sea Ray models that are also offered as an outboard version, the Sea Ray yard has fundamentally specialized in building inboard variants. Whether sporty speedster, wakeboard boat, weekender or family yacht – comfort, outstanding handling and the indispensable "fun factor" are always guaranteed with Sea Ray.

Sea Ray powerboats of all size classes and purposes are distinguished by their high resale value on the used boat market.
