As with many Scandinavian shipyards, Windy's reputation is built on the quality of the materials used and on outstanding craftsmanship.
Content
Windy was founded in 1966 by Hugo Vold. His father was a fisherman and passed his love of the sea on to Hugo – something that is still reflected today in the outstanding seaworthiness of his boats.
All of the family's fishing boats were called "Vindy" – so after founding his yard, Hugo Vold, a trained naval architect and boatbuilder, adopted the traditional name and "internationalized" it to "Windy".
Worldwide recognition
At a time when Scandinavian manufacturers dominated and shaped the European market, when boating was being revolutionized and millions of people were looking for (and finding) fun on the water, Hugo Vold hired the best designers, sought out the best boatbuilders and craftsmen and, within a very short time, created a boat brand that would go on to earn worldwide recognition.
As with many Scandinavian yards, Windy's reputation is based on the quality of the materials used and on outstanding craftsmanship. The rugged, deep-V hulls (see The V question) and the boats' smooth handling even in rough seas have become legendary.
Interiors by leading superyacht designers
The Windy production facilities in Västervik (Sweden) and Ostroda (Poland) stand out for their advanced production lines and manufacturing processes. The hull shapes are considered fuel-efficient.
The interiors of Windy boats are designed by leading superyacht designers, who skilfully combine the legendary clean Scandinavian lines with luxurious details.
Two legends under one roof
In 2014, Windy took over the (insolvent) Draco brand and brought it back to life.
This iconic Scandinavian brand has always combined the fun of fast sport boats with the option of spending the night comfortably on board. Windy's range includes two Draco models, both drawn by the world-famous yacht designer Ed Dubois. The motto: "New look, new adventures – same spirit!"
