Beneteau

Bénéteau stands for consistently pursued continuity and creatively realized visions – on the race course as well as in cruising under sail and under power. The company remains majority family-owned.

Few companies have managed to defend their international market leadership over such a long period in the fiercely competitive watersports market. Groupe Bénéteau is one of the most successful corporate groups in France and has expanded successfully in economic terms over recent years.

A success story on the water

For over a hundred years, it was mainly fishing boats – for example for tuna fishing off the French coast – that made the Bénéteau shipyard famous. In 1984, the company, which had rebuilt a large part of the French fishing fleet after the Second World War, went public. In 1986, the Bénéteau Group opened its first foreign subsidiary in South Carolina, USA. In 1992, it took over CNB, a shipyard that built custom aluminum yachts and gave Bénéteau important new impetus. In 1995, the Jeanneau shipyard became a new “family member”, bringing with it the Lagoon catamarans, among others.

Success at the Figaro

In 1989, Bénéteau began its liaison with the legendary Solitaire du Figaro, a single-handed long-distance stage race. To this day, Bénéteau supplies the identical one-design racing yachts for the spectacular Figaro racing circuit. Currently, these short-handed boats are sailed with foils (Figaro 3)

The yacht conglomerate

In the years that followed, Bénéteau grew in remarkable fashion: in 1997, Wauquiez joined with its semi-custom yachts (leaving again in 2006), and in 1999 Bénéteau founded EYB European Yacht Brokerage as well as SGB Finance to finance the many boats it intended to sell.
In 2012, Bénéteau opened a plant in Brazil with more than 600 employees.

Growth through expansion and acquisitions

As of 2020, the following brands and shipyards operate within the Bénéteau Group:
Bénéteau (cruising yachts, performance cruisers, racing boats such as the Figaro 3 foiler), Jeanneau (cruising yachts, performance cruisers), Lagoon (cruising catamarans), Prestige (Flybridge and sports motor yachts), Monte-Carlo Yachts (nomen est omen), CNB Yacht Builders (high-quality semi-custom luxury yachts in aluminum or composite), Four Winns (open semi-custom powerboats), Glastron (innovative powerboat range), Scarab (specialized in jet powerboats, among others), Wellcraft (innovative offshore fishing boats), Excess (luxury sailing catamarans), Delphia (Polish shipyard with innovative sailing yachts and motor yachts aimed primarily at the Eastern European market).
In total, Groupe Bénéteau sells around 10,000 boats across 200 models (as of 2020).
