I bought her to fulfil my dream of a safe, good sailing boat to take me anywhere.
With some help from Maritim I found out about Trintella IV.
There were so many others to consider: Hallberg-Rassy 41/42, Moody 108/41/42, Tashiba 40, Hans Christian 33 and others, Westerley 127, Island Packet 38/40, Westsail 42, Mason 43, Valiant 40, Contest 40, Rustler 40, Nicholson 40 or even a CSY 44 (Caribbean Sailing Yacht), you name them.
The longer I looked into all of them, none of the others was able to compete.
Starting from having no core under the Teak deck, but nothing other than solid GRP, large tank volumes, two separate cabins with a head each, space for others to join, sail configurations that allow you to manage them yourself if needed and make it possible to balance her with sails so she can fly even without her self-steering system.
So then it was time to find the right one. Once I found her, wanting to be sure I was buying the right boat, I flew a UK surveyor to Norway to see her out of the water before experiencing her in the Norwegian Sea and the rough, stormy April North Sea.
She delivered what I expected from her: a top sailing boat averaging 7-8 knots with the right wind without any difficulties.
Designed by E.G. van der Stadt - a designer of fast crafts - as a development from the Trintella III and built in 1974 by the Dutch shipyard Anne Wever, who was known for its high-quality manufacturing.
Designer and shipyard guaranteed it as a well thought-out construction, which, besides comfort and space, offers lots of cruising pleasure, performance and comfort in this Ocean A-rated vessel.
Hull blistering of the GRP is often a concern. The advantage of this hull is that, as early as 1991, the then-owner, an expert in this field at the time, treated this hull with the precautionary treatments, which are still recommended. He published his knowledge in an article at the time. It had further precautionary treatment and remained completely blister-free till today.
Why I chose a Trintella IV:
1) Bluewater, ocean going vessel that sails well and gives you safety even in the heaviest of weathers
2) Flexible sail plan to allow easy handling of all sails.
3) Protected centre cockpit for best comfort.
4) Full fiberglass hull, no sandwich or core, avoiding many teak deck problems.
5) Two completely separate cabins, each with their own head.
6) No sail-drive and well protected rudder.
The engine, a Perkins M90, is from 2009.
