Notes
1981 Moody 40, EUR 22,000
Located south of Sicily, Italy. Berth available till June 2027.
This Moody has had real money and care put into the right places. The standing and running rigging were fully replaced in Trinidad in 2022 — the single most expensive rig-related renewal, already done. The deck, cockpit sole, and coachroof were refinished in Awlgrip, a premium two-part marine coating, and the bimini and sprayhood are new (2022). Below the waterline, the keel was media-blasted, faired, primed, and coated with International antifouling in 2025. Mast steps to the spreaders make rig inspection and minor repairs straightforward without a bosun's chair. Electronics were upgraded in 2016 and remain in use, the galley has an Eno gas stove/oven (2019), and the salon cushions were reupholstered in 2022. Power management includes a D400 wind generator with regulator (2020) and two 100Ah lithium batteries (2022).
Power is a Volvo Penta D2-55 (2007, ~2000 hours) — starts reliably, runs well, and has been serviced annually (oil, filters, etc.). A water pump failure caused some water intrusion in the engine bay, leaving surface rust and general cosmetic grime — mechanically sound, but the engine room needs a clean-up and cosmetic attention.
Being upfront about what still needs attention: the keel bolts show surface rust and should be inspected/addressed — separate from the keel exterior work already done. The hull topsides were repainted by a previous owner in Greece and are not to current standard; a proper refinish is on the list for the next owner. The engine bay needs cleaning and cosmetic rust treatment following a past water pump leak (engine itself unaffected mechanically). The sails are older but usable — two genoas (one larger, one smaller working jib) and a mainsail, all in serviceable condition. No dinghy included.
This is priced as a project boat: significant recent investment in rigging, deck, keel prep, interior, electronics, and power systems, an engine that runs and has been maintained, with clear, disclosed cosmetic items remaining — no surprises after survey. Serious inquiries only, please — happy to answer detailed questions and share additional photos before scheduling a viewing.
