Mason 43 (1986)
A classic long-distance cruiser with beautiful teak joinery, a spacious layout and an extensive sail inventory.
Designed by Al Mason and built by Ta Shing, this Mason 43 is reported to be hull no. 80, completed in November 1985 and the last boat built in the series. Wide side decks, full-length bulwarks, high lifelines and a comfortable cockpit make moving around on deck easy.
Below deck, the interior is bright and spacious, with satin-varnished teak throughout. The layout includes two separate cabins, a large saloon, a navigation station, a well-equipped galley and a bathroom with a separate shower. Accommodation for up to nine people is reported.
Recent additions include OneSails mainsail, headsail and staysail from 2024, a new refrigeration system and engine alternator from 2025, and furling systems and a furling gennaker from 2026.
Accommodation
The forward cabin has a double berth, seating and generous storage. The anchor locker is accessible from this cabin and is separated from the bilge, with its own sump and pump-out. A forward locker has been fitted out as a workshop.
Aft of the forward cabin is a bathroom with a marine toilet, washbasin and separate shower with a seat. The saloon has a large U-shaped settee to port that converts to a double berth. To starboard are a settee and upper and lower pilot berths.
The aft cabin has a double berth to port, a single berth to starboard and a hanging locker, with further storage beneath and alongside the berths. Reported headroom is approximately 1.93 m.
Galley
The U-shaped galley is designed for use at sea and includes:
Navigation and electrical equipment
Sails and rigging
Older Doyle storm jib, trysail and cruising gennaker are also included.
## Deck and other equipment
The boat is equipped with a dodger, hatch covers, a large white sun awning, 14 opening ports, three teak-framed overhead hatches and five dorade vents. Deck equipment also includes a Muir V-3000 electric windlass, a 60 lb CQR anchor, a 20 lb Danforth anchor, approximately 70 m of anchor chain and anchor rode.
