Dragonfly trimarans are boats for sailors who love high daily runs but don't want to give up comfort and easy handling – and who want to find a berth in every harbor. The Danish yard has turned the folding performance tri into a cruising concept of its own: fast at sea, surprisingly practical in the harbor, and built with a pioneering spirit that is well known in the scene and goes down particularly well with multihull enthusiasts.

A family yard with a trimaran tradition
Dragonfly is the brand and model range of the Danish yard Quorning Boats in Fredericia. Its history goes back to 1967; to this day the company is family-run and is regarded as THE trend-setting specialist for folding sailing trimarans.
Swing Wing – folding the floats against the hull
For decades, the "Swing Wing" folding system has been at the core of the brand: on every Dragonfly trimaran model, the floats can be folded in sideways against the main hull to fit narrower marina berths. This is how the Danes solved one of the basic problems of fast multihulls: the proportionally enormous beam overall always meant frustration in the harbor. Dragonfly describes this principle as its key unique selling point – on current models such as the Dragonfly 36, the beam shrinks to 3.70 meters in folded condition.
Fast sailing – without the drama, please!
In tests by international specialist magazines, the Dragonfly 36 trimaran, for example, is described as a fast but by no means "nervous" boat: speeds of over 20 knots are possible without overtaxing the crew. And with the larger Dragonfly 40, testers already noted that this is not merely a sporty tri, but a surprisingly complete cruising trimaran with genuine long-distance qualities. The result is that distinctive Dragonfly signature that many owners look for: maximum performance under sails, without ever feeling that you are sailing on the edge.
From trailerable to ocean-capable
The history of the brand shows just how consistently Quorning has developed the folding concept. The company chronicle features models such as the Dragonfly 800 Swing Wing, the Dragonfly 1000, the successful 920 and later the 1200 Ocean Cruiser. The 1000 Swing Wing already marked the move toward cruising capability in the early 1990s. And the compromise length of the 920 (under 10 m) became one of the yard's great successes. Today, the current range runs from the Dragonfly 25 through the 28, 32 and 36 to the Dragonfly 40. (With Dragonfly, the older model numbers follow a metric scheme, while the more recent ones use the internationally common classification in feet.) Dragonfly thus covers the spectrum from a still trailerable performance tri to a fast long-distance cruiser with plenty of range.
Award-winning in every sense
The latest models and awards show that the yard has never given up its love of innovation. The Dragonfly 40 won the title of European Yacht of the Year in its category in 2021. The Dragonfly 36 won European Yacht of the Year 2026 in the Performance Cruiser Multihull category.
Models:
Today, Dragonfly stands for a model range spanning 25 to 40 feet. The smaller models appeal to sailors who tow their boats on a trailer from one sailing area to the next — to be out on the water fast and sporty. The larger folding trimarans Dragonfly 36 and 40 are regarded as innovative performance cruisers for fast coastal and offshore passages.
