The Bavaria 42 built in the year 2000 belongs to a highly respected, "over-engineered" era of Bavaria Yachtbau. Often called a classic of the yard's golden production years, this generation was designed by the famous Slovenian naval studio J&J Design.
Unlike modern mass-production boats that rely heavily on light liners and molded plastic, the 2000 model features a robust, solid fiberglass hull below the waterline, heavy mahogany woodwork interior, and a sleek, low-profile deckhouse influenced by classic Scandinavian lines. Thanks to its long waterline and fractional rig layout, it tracks straight and locks into a groove easily. It is surprisingly agile for a heavy displacement boat, and because the mast is stepped further forward than older masthead sloops, it can easily be sailed under the mainsail alone on lazy coastal cruising days.
