Passenger ship
Passenger ships are considered especially robust and are used thousands of times every day all over the world. Many cities with access to water now carry more commuters or tourists on passenger ships than by bus or rail.

What is a passenger ship?
The name says it all: passenger ships carry people or guests from A to B. They are purpose-built for this task and fitted with an adequate number of seats, lounges or cabins. Originally, the large ocean-going liners were also referred to as passenger ships. In today's usage, however, the term "passenger ship" has come to describe vessels that carry passengers on inland waterways, lakes and along coastal waters.
Many size classes
With proper maintenance and care, passenger ships are considered robust – or more precisely, long-lasting – and they hold a high resale value. They are offered on Boat24 in many size classes. When buying a used ship, you should of course check whether it meets all the safety standards required for its intended area of operation.
Passenger ships are used almost exclusively in a professional setting. They serve as scheduled service vessels (for commuters and tourists) on large lakes, in harbors and on rivers, as well as excursion boats.
Mainly for professional use
Passenger ships that were used to carry people in their "first life" are only rarely repurposed after being sold as used ships. After extensive conversion work, some former passenger ships now serve as houseboats or floating houses. Perhaps the most tasteless (or the most original, depending on your point of view) change of use for a passenger ship was the conversion of a cabin passenger ship into a brothel on Lake Constance.
Who should buy a passenger ship?
Passenger ships are a good fit for…
- anyone who wants to carry commuters or tourists professionally on scheduled and excursion services
- towns and municipalities located near waterways or lakes
