The Bowrider
The quality of a powerboat is often measured by what guests on board expect. Take the Bowrider – here it's all about the passengers, who would rather enjoy a trip in the bow area than amidships or aft, as on a classically designed Runabout.

What is a bowrider
A type of sport powerboat that was first mass-produced in the United States. Passengers on board a bowrider enjoy the trip sitting (or lying) in the bow area, figuratively "riding" over the waves in the bow (bow = front of the boat).
Unlike the classic layout of sport boats, where passengers usually sit in the middle and aft sections, bowriders are designed with a more pragmatic approach. They offer space for more passengers and/or additional lounging space for sun lovers. This often means less storage space for luggage, fenders and the like. Some manufacturers offer molded covers that can be used to close off the "open bow area".
Designed for sporting activities
Bowriders are mostly designed as planing boats and are therefore popular for sporting activities such as water skiing, as a tow boat for tubes or simply as a relaxed day cruiser for a family outing.
Disadvantages of a bowrider
Bowriders have sometimes been criticized for the fact that in relatively heavy seas the bow area can flood, especially at (slow) displacement speed and with a bow-heavy weight trim. Most manufacturers have responded to this, among other things, by fitting self-draining cockpits.
Who should buy a bowrider?
A bowrider is exactly the right boat for you if you
- want to be out on the water almost exclusively with passengers or guests on board
- count your friends or family among the classic "sun worshippers"
- need more seating and lounging space than conventional runabout designs of the same size offer
- want to give your friends or family the view straight ahead
