Deck boat
Deck boats – or deckboats – have become a firmly established part of the European watersports scene over the past few years. Their looks may be a matter of taste, but their functionality and the space they offer on deck are beyond question.

What is a deck boat?
Because they are used in such similar ways, deck boats are often confused with bowriders. The most striking difference between the two boat types: deck boats have an extremely wide, flared bow and therefore considerably more space on the foredeck than the bowrider, which is also known for this feature.
All-rounders with different hull shapes
Deck boats can have different hull shapes. Some have a deep-V design with a flared hull, while others have a tri-hull design with a wide hull surface at the front that transitions into a deep V at the stern.
Advantages, disadvantages
However, the wider the hull surface is at the front, the harder the bow section slams or slaps into the waves in rough seas and/or at high speed. So in exchange for the much more generous space on a deck boat, passengers have to accept a certain drawback in rough water – one that can, incidentally, be offset by running at lower speeds. In general, deck boats usually have considerably less powerful engines than bowriders.
The styling and design of deck boats is – much like with the bowrider – a matter of taste. With both boat types, functionality and space are clearly the main focus.
So what is a deck boat used for?
Deck boats can serve as „transporters“ for a relatively large number of guests – measured against the length/size of the boat – and for many water sports: from angling and fishing through to water skiing, anything is possible. In their country of origin, the USA, and by now in Europe as well, deck boats are considered classic family boats: stable, safe, with outstanding space on deck by comparison and therefore a high fun factor.
Who should buy a deck boat?
You should look for deck boats if you…
- want a safe family boat that can handle (almost) any kind of watersports fun
- care more about carrying a disproportionately high number of passengers on board than about max speed
- enjoy inviting all your good friends along for a spin every now and then
