Built by Jeanneau in 2003, this Sun Odyssey 40 DS is the very definition of the deck-salon concept that made the range so popular: a saloon flooded with natural light, a view outside from the chart table and clear, easy decks. Construction and sea-keeping
GRP hull, 12.20 m overall by 3.95 m beam, 1.95 m draft and a displacement of 7,200 kg: balanced proportions that give this Sun Odyssey good manners upwind and real comfort off the wind. Teak decks and teak cockpit. The rig includes a mainsail track and car, backstay, halyard turning blocks and spinnaker gear. Furling mainsail and genoa both from 2021.
Engine and accommodation
A 55 hp VOLVO D2-55, 4-cylinder with raw-water cooling and shaft drive, shows 1,000 hours with work carried out in 2023. She cruises at 7 knots on 2 l/h, with 11 knots top speed; 136 litres of diesel and 320 litres of fresh water give comfortable range. Below, 3 cabins and 8 berths, convertible saloon, oven, electric fridge, hot water (2024) and hi-fi.
