This remarkable historic vessel was commissioned by the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (NSM) as an executive launch and built at Shipyard 't Kromhout D. Goedkoop Jr., also based in Amsterdam. After delivery, she entered service under the name Scheepsbouw I. In 1951, she was renamed into Shipdock I, following the continuation of the yard's activities under the name Nederlandsche Droogdok- en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (NDSM). The vessel is equipped with a characteristic Kromhout (Gardner) diesel engine, a suitable installation that perfectly matches her historical background.
