The Dufour 40 Performance is an excellent sailor that both more sporty sailors and families can handle excellently.

Due to its sporty sailing characteristics, there are few ships of this size with comparable sailing qualities and comfortable interior. The cockpit is spacious and equipped with good ergonomics, the mainsheet and traveler are within reach from the large steering wheel, and with the Raymarine autopilot below deck, shorthanded sailing is easily manageable. The seats provide good back support and all lines run over the deck to the cockpit. The side decks have good non-slip thanks to the neat teak deck, and under the boom there is a display for the more sporty sailor and readable for the crew.

The interior is spacious and bright thanks to the beautiful white leather upholstery and natural light. On the port side, the L-shaped galley with top loader fridge, 2-burner stove with oven, and double sink. On the other side is the wet room with electric toilet and navigation corner with various built-in features. The cozy seating area with foldable dining table provides a free passage to the bow where the "owners cabin" with en-suite wet room is located. In the aft cabins, there are 2 double beds with bookshelves and hanging/wardrobe.

Ohjaamo on tilava ja ergonomisesti hyvin suunniteltu; suuresta ohjauspyörästä käsin ylitysköysi ja isopurjeen köysi ovat käden ulottuvilla, ja alakannen Raymarine-autopilotin ansiosta purjehtiminen pienellä miehistöllä sujuu hyvin. Istuimessa on hyvä selkänoja, ja kaikki köydet kulkevat kannen poikki ohjaamoon. Kävelykäytävät ovat hyvin liukumattomat siistin tiikkikannen ansiosta, ja puomin alla on näyttö urheilullisemmille purjehtijoille, joka on helposti luettavissa myös miehistölle.

Sisätilat ovat tilavat ja valoisat kauniin valkoisen nahkaverhoilun ja luonnonvalon ansiosta. Paapuurissa on L-muotoinen keittiö, jossa on ylhäältä täytettävä kylmälaukku, 2-liekkinen liesi uunilla ja kaksialtainen pesuallas. Toisella puolella on kylpyhuone, jossa on sähkö-WC, sekä navigointinurkkaus, joka on varustettu erilaisilla sisäänrakennetuilla laitteilla.
Viihtyisä pyöreä istuinryhmä, jossa on taitettava ruokapöytä, tarjoaa esteettömän kulkureitin keulaan, jossa sijaitsee ”omistajan hytti” omalla kylpyhuoneella.
Perähyteissä on kaksi kahden hengen sänkyä, joissa on kirjahylly sekä ripustus- ja säilytyskaapit.
