The condition or level of safety equipment on board is not to be negotiated on following survey. It is likely to be listed by most surveyors but is not structural or an integral working part of the vessel and is not to be used to further negotiate the price down after survey. We strongly suggest that for your own personal safety that when purchasing a yacht you provide new safety equipment rather than relying on second hand gear.
Should you become the new owner of this yacht then the responsibility to re-register or update official bodies for items such as EPIRB, VHF, MMSI or AIS becomes yours.
Comments
Powerful well equipped stylish blue water cruiser.
Before we bought her we were invited onto Tom Cunliffe’s boat Constance for a day. A Mason 44. We loved her but Tom warned us of the certification issues of bringing one back from the USA. Riduna is very similar in style to the Mason internally.
Adamaster another Crossbow 40 was the boat of choice for Jess Lloyd Mostyn’s well documented Circumnavigation, she still writes a column in Sailing Today about the voyage.
Owners (experienced) friends borrowed the yacht for 2 weeks and this is their assessment:
"Riduna is an excellent sea boat, she finds her groove easily and makes steady way through even a significant chop.
The sail configuration allows significant opportunity for meeting any reasonable wind conditions.
The build is surprisingly stiff and the helm responsive.
The large rudder makes close quarter manoeuvring straightforward though some care is needed in reverse as is normally the case with long keeled boats.
The sail control lines are easily to hand in the cockpit and are heavy duty re-emphasising the capability and capacity of the boat.
Riduna feels bigger than her dimensions indicate and she is spacious with an excellent saloon comfortable and snug.
Her design works well in the Mediterranean as there are a plethora of hatches providing excellent ventilation.
The anchor and ground tackle have always given complete peace of mind, an assured nights sleep when well dug in.
Seeing the boat achieve 8 knots in 20 knots of wind proved how given the right conditions she can lift her skirts and go.
Headroom below is excellent although slightly restricted in the galley . Other than that the galley enables good bracing underway, a capacious fridge and plenty of stowage.”
