Olave – 37 ft Classic Furuholmen Motor Yacht from 1947

A unique opportunity to become the owner of a remarkable piece of Scandinavian yachting history.

Olave is a 37 ft classic motor yacht, built in Oslo in 1947 to a design by the legendary Norwegian yacht designer Richard Gustav Furuholmen. An elegant wooden yacht full of character, created for the discerning owner who appreciates classic Scandinavian design, traditional craftsmanship and a truly special history.

Olave is constructed of larch on oak with mahogany and measures 11.2 metres in length and 2.9 metres in beam. With her harmonious lines and classic proportions, she is a beautiful example of the Norwegian motor yacht tradition of her era.

Designed by Richard G. Furuholmen

Richard Gustav Furuholmen (1887–1963) is regarded as one of Norway’s most important motor yacht designers. His designs are renowned for their elegant lines, well-balanced proportions and unmistakable classic Scandinavian appearance.

Several of Olave’s sister ships and related Furuholmen designs are still cruising the Norwegian fjords today, with a dedicated community of enthusiasts centred around the Furuholmen Motor Yacht Club.

Olave is therefore not simply a classic wooden yacht, but part of a very special Norwegian tradition of yacht design and craftsmanship.

Completely Restored with Respect for the Original

Between 2009 and 2013, Olave underwent an extensive and comprehensive restoration. Throughout the process, the owners placed great emphasis on restoring the yacht with the utmost respect for her original design and traditional craftsmanship.

Their ambitions were high. To ensure that the restoration was carried out as authentically and accurately as possible, the owners travelled to Oslo, where they located the original hull drawings at the Norwegian Maritime Museum. These original plans formed the basis for bringing this classic motor yacht back to her former glory.

The Result Speaks for Itself

In 2013, the owners received the prestigious “Skruen” award from the Danish Association for Older Pleasure Craft (DFÆL) in recognition of the outstanding restoration.

6-Cylinder Westerbeke Diesel Engine

Olave is powered by a Westerbeke 108 C, a 6-cylinder diesel engine producing 108 hp, which runs flawlessly.

The engine has a displacement of 4.05 litres and delivers a maximum torque of 192 lbs-ft at 1,830 rpm. This provides the classic motor yacht with reliable and well-suited propulsion that perfectly complements her size and character.

For easier manoeuvring in harbours and marinas, Olave has also been fitted with a new bow thruster.

A Motor Yacht with History and Soul

Olave is for the enthusiast looking for something that simply cannot be found among modern, mass-produced yachts.

Here is the opportunity to acquire a classic Furuholmen design from 1947, constructed using beautiful traditional materials and subsequently restored on the basis of the yacht’s original drawings. The fact that the restoration was later honoured with the “Skruen” award underlines the exceptional care and respect devoted to preserving this remarkable yacht.

It is the combination of history, Scandinavian design, traditional yacht-building craftsmanship and a documented comprehensive restoration that makes Olave truly special.

A rare opportunity to become the next custodian of an award-winning classic motor yacht and continue the remarkable story of Olave.
