Evergreen and hugely versatile 5-cabin, 5-heads German Frers-designed ocean cruising yacht from Nautor in Finland. Hull no.16 of 24 Swan 68’s launched. Extensively and sympathetically refitted and upgraded in her present 17yr ownership.

FURTHER BROKER’S COMMENTS:

The Swan 68 is a luxury blue-water cruiser-racer sailboat designed by Germán Frers and built by the Finnish shipyard Nautor Swan between 1992 and 2004. With 24 delivered between 1992 and 2004, KIANDA (ex ANNABEL J III) is hull no.16, launched in September 1996. A rare yacht in today’s market, she combines genuine offshore performance with the volume and stability for long-distance cruising with family and guests.

Below decks she sleeps 10 in five cabins, with three additional Pullman berths: the aft owner’s cabin with a centreline double and two Pullman berths, a double cabin forward to port, a starboard forward cabin with a lower double and a single Pullman berth, a double V-berth in the bow, and a crew cabin with two bunks and its own head. With five heads in all, she accommodates a maximum of 12 persons aboard.

Acquired by her current owner in 2009, the newly renamed KIANDA headed to renowned UK Nautor Swan specialist shipyard Hamble Yacht Services (HYS) for a yearlong refit that included new teak decks, exterior paint and a remodelled interior. A further major refit was completed back in the UK at the Berthon Shipyard in 2020, dealing with the replacement, overhaul and upgraded of any age-related systems. In between these periods of refit/upgrade KIANDA has cruised in the Mediterranean with the owner’s family and friends, always with a full-time professional skipper employed year-round to ensure ongoing maintenance to a consistently high standard.

KIANDA boasts many specification highlights including:
Accommodation for 8 guests (10 using Pullman berths) in 4 cabins plus a forward V-berth, up to 12 aboard including crew, with 5 ensuite heads, finished in Nautor teak

OWNERS COMMENTS:

We have been sailing since 2000, much of it racing. We campaigned a Farr 52 and other boats needing crews of 15 to 18, and competed in events including the Fastnet and regattas in Rhode Island. When family life took priority, we bought an Oyster 56 to cruise around Mallorca with our children. She was a comfortable boat, but after years of racing we found her slow. We set out to find the fastest hull we could that would still work as a family cruiser, and that search led us to KIANDA.

We rebuilt the aft cabin so we could stay comfortably aboard with our children. Since then KIANDA has taken us across the Mediterranean, from Turkey to Gibraltar. For the children’s safety we ran her with two professional crew, with me sailing alongside them. My eldest son was only 14 when we bought her, so he grew up sailing her with us.

She has been a remarkable boat. Motorsailing, she cruises easily at 8–9 knots, and with just three or four people sailing her she is still fast: on a beam reach through the Strait of Bonifacio she regularly made 12 knots or more under sail. With our children now grown and our plans changing, we have decided to pass KIANDA on to a new owner who will enjoy her as much as we have.
