KEY FEATURES
The Diesel Duck 462 gives you a true ocean-going ship in a 50-foot package: a heavy steel hull built from CCS-approved marine steel with X-rayed welds, five watertight bulkheads and commercial-grade aluminium sea doors and ports — the kind of boat you can take across an ocean or into high latitudes without second thoughts. At an economical 6–7 knots her single, slow-turning John Deere 4045 commercial diesel runs at only a fraction of its power and burns around 8 litres per hour, so almost 7,400 litres of fuel give you over 5,000 nautical miles without refuelling — enough to cross the Atlantic with fuel to spare for the way back. Unlike most boats of her size, the layout gives you a separate galley, a dining area and a large saloon, three cabins and two heads, all finished in solid teak — real liveaboard comfort for a cruising couple and their guests. A generator, solar panels and a wind generator keep her comfortable and independent far from any marina.

OPTIONS ON THIS YACHT
This hull is ordered with factory options worth US$119,800 and further upgraded on top of that — equipment that turns a capable motorsailer into a fully independent expedition yacht:
- DMS MagnusMaster rotor stabilizers — an all-electric roll stabilization system for displacement yachts from DMS Holland (approx. US$80,000 installed). Spinning rotors use the Magnus effect to counter roll underway, with no hydraulics, and retract when not in use. Together with the flopper stoppers at anchor, you get a stable, comfortable boat both on passage and in the anchorage.
- Lithium yttrium iron phosphate batteries (LiFeYPO4) — unlike classic LiFePO4, yttrium-doped LYP cells handle peak loads and low temperatures better: a reliable house bank, including for cold-water cruising.
- Flybridge with full engine and thruster controls, helm seat and bimini — a second helm with 360° visibility for coastal piloting and warm-weather cruising.
- Ketch rig — two masts and three sails on simple, easy-to-handle external furlers. The sails cut fuel consumption, take load off the engine, extend range, stabilize the boat in a seaway — and give you an alternative means of propulsion if fuel runs short or anything happens to the power plant.
- Flopper stopper roll stabilizers — stainless and aluminium booms on both sides lower underwater stabilizer plates that sharply damp side-to-side rolling: calm, comfortable nights at anchor even in open, rolly bays.
- 24 V bow thruster — easy, confident handling in tight marinas.
- Diesel heating (Webasto type, 4 outlets) — warm and dry from Norway to Patagonia, without running the generator.
- Watermaker, 200 US gal/day — unlimited fresh water and freedom from shore supply.
- Ice package
