MANUFACTURER’S COMMENTS:

Designed by the naval architecture firm Joubert-Nivelt, the Tofinou 12 is faithful to the spirit of the site combining tradition and modernity. Its refined line, its easy to bring and send sails, make the Tofinou 12. a boat with elegant simplicity.

Keeping the line and the aesthetics of its sisterships, but assuming its 12m, the Tofinou 12 surprises with the sensations of speed and power that it provides, always with the same simplicity. Fast and safe, it combines the beauty of teak and varnished mahogany with the modernity of the inox and carbon. Easy to maneuver, the Tofinou 12. can sail alone or crew.

The Tofinou 12. (class in constitution), offers great opportunities to race. You will be welcomed in particular at the Régates Impériales of Ajaccio, at the Royal Regattas of Cannes and to end the season, at Les Voiles de St Tropez. Other prestigious regattas welcome the Tofinou 12. to the 4 corners of the world.

Tofinou 12 also allows you to have beautiful solo escapades ... Maneuvers whose ease is enhanced by the return of the plays in the cockpit, spacious and comfortable. Everything is there to give sail, to make room for the pleasure of sailing and even to allow for "Class America" tacking!

Whatever the expectations of his helmsman, Tofinou 12. knows how to make vibrate and arouse powerful emotions: it is singular, strong and mesmerizing.

The stylish interior with the well-kept comfort of Tofinou 12. invites you to rest and enjoy well-being.
A cabin with a kitchen, a shower and a separate toilet constitute a living space that satisfies necessity and aesthetics.

You can go sailing alone or crewed with comfortable berths. The subtlety of this boat will give you pleasure of navigation and satisfaction of moments of shared conviviality.

MANUFACTURER’S BACKGROUND:

Latitude 46 is a builder of both sailing and motor boats and has been based in France for the last 25 years on the Ile de Re. From Australia, through Japan to Bresil, many have succumbed to the charms of these boats with their classical lines beneath which lies the hightest standard of modern construction. And it is here that the unique strenght of the compagny lies; preservation of unique French boat building skills, linked to the most modern methods od building with wood and composites. Without forgetting that each of the Latitude 46 designs bears the signature of Joubert / Nivelt, naval architects whose reputations extend well beyond the borders of Europe.

PRESS REVIEW:

“The 40-foot Tofinou 12 is a Joubert/Nivelt design, moderate of beam, lean and low-slung, and drawing almost 8 feet—which would be a drawback in many areas of the U.S. East Coast, but makes for an impressively stiff and precise ride to weather. Hull and bulkheads are lightweight fiberglass/foam composites, and the bare minimum of interior furniture and systems—along with a carbon fibre spar—help keep weight down to a svelte 10,500 pounds—about 40 percent less than a typical 40-foot production boat.

Sail controls are led aft to a quartet of Harken winches in the cockpit, where they can be easily tended by the helmsman. Lines run in galleries behind the mahogany-sheathed false coaming and cabin-top sides, which can be removed and stored under cover when the boat is decommissioned.

The work area is concentrated around the twin carbon-fibre wheels, so guests can take it easy on the long teak-covered bench seats. With the autopilot driving, the skipper can easily trim, reef, raise and drop the sails, as well as tack and gybe the boat. But most of the time, he or she will be standing behind one of the leather-trimmed wheels or reclining against the comfortable padded backrests.

Once the big main was up and drawing, the boat hared off on a tight reach, feeling eager to go even before we unrolled the self-tacking jib and sheeted it home. When all you have to do in a tack is put the wheel over, sailing to windward becomes a pleasure. On a boat such as this, which fairly leaps out of a tack as soon as the sails fill, it’s even more rewarding. Hard on the wind, with 15 knots over the deck, the speed readout on the mast flickered readily into the 8s. With the sheets cracked in a freshening breeze we were soon surging along at 9-plus knots, with grins to match.
