The new Hylas H57 Hull #10 represents the latest evolution of Hylas’ modern bluewater cruising yacht, combining Bill Dixon’s performance-oriented hull design with the exceptional construction, systems engineering, and attention to detail for which Hylas is known. Nearing completion and scheduled to arrive this fall, Hull #10 offers the opportunity to own a new H57 without the lengthy wait normally associated with a custom-built offshore cruising yacht.
Designed from the outset for safe and manageable short-handed sailing, the H57 combines twin helm stations and twin rudders with a powerful Solent rig and highly automated sail handling. Hydraulic furling and electric winches allow the primary sail controls to be handled from the cockpit, while the self-tacking jib makes routine maneuvering remarkably straightforward for a yacht of this size. The result is a yacht capable of serious offshore passagemaking without requiring a large crew.
Hull #10 has been particularly well specified for extended cruising. Her electrical system is centered around an 800Ah Victron lithium house bank supported by a 12 kW Northern Lights generator, providing substantial capacity for comfortable life aboard. Bow and retractable stern thrusters make close-quarters maneuvering considerably easier, while the upgraded Garmin navigation package provides comprehensive navigation and vessel information at the helms and navigation station.
At anchor, a hydraulic folding swim platform with expanding aft-deck wings transforms the stern into a large waterside living area. Heavy-duty 300 kg Simpson davits provide a practical solution for carrying a substantial cruising tender while keeping it readily accessible.
Below deck, the H57 takes full advantage of her 17-foot beam and extensive hull and saloon glazing to create an exceptionally bright and spacious interior. The three-cabin arrangement features a full-beam aft owner's stateroom, forward VIP cabin, versatile third cabin, two heads with separate showers, a passageway galley, and a dedicated forward-facing navigation station. Extensive storage and excellent access to machinery and systems reflect the yacht's purpose as a genuine long-range cruising platform.
Finished in classic factory white gelcoat and equipped with a shoal-draft keel, Hull #10 combines offshore capability with the flexibility to cruise destinations where deeper-draft yachts may be restricted.
The Hylas H57 is built for owners who intend to use their yacht—not simply admire it at the dock. Hull #10 combines performance, short-handed sailing capability, thoughtful systems engineering, luxurious accommodations, and serious passagemaking credentials in a yacht designed to take her owners comfortably across oceans or through years of independent cruising.
