The Fountaine Pajot Bahia 46 “Kaimana” is an exceptional opportunity for buyers who recognize the potential of a technically comprehensively modernized cruising catamaran and are specifically looking for a solid refit platform. The vessel was originally purchased as a refit project with the goal of technically modernizing a classic Bahia 46 from the ground up and subsequently bringing both the interior and exterior to a contemporary standard. A significant portion of this project has already been completed consistently — especially the most cost-intensive and technically demanding areas. However, the refit was never fully finished, making the “Kaimana” a rare opportunity today: a technically extensively renewed catamaran with honest cosmetic and craftsmanship-related work remaining.

Particularly noteworthy is the complete renewal of the propulsion system. Both engines were replaced in 2025 with brand-new Yanmar 3JH40 diesel engines producing 40 HP each and currently showing only approximately 20 operating hours. As a result, the entire propulsion system is practically in new condition. The saildrives, including the seals, were also renewed during the refit. For a buyer, this represents a major advantage, as one of the most expensive and sensitive cost factors on a used bluewater catamaran has already been fully addressed.

The entire onboard electrical system has also been comprehensively modernized. The electrical installation was completely rebuilt and upgraded to a high-quality, modern technical standard. This includes new battery systems, modern power management, and a powerful solar array mounted on the newly installed arch. The onboard power supply has therefore been brought to a contemporary and reliable level, providing an excellent foundation for comfortable onboard living and autonomous cruising.

The complete navigation electronics were renewed as well. The vessel features modern navigation equipment including a new Raymarine chartplotter, autopilot, AIS, radar, VHF radio, and additional up-to-date systems.

Investment has also been made in many practical onboard details. A large new dinghy together with a new 20 HP outboard engine is included in the package. A new hardtop has been installed above the cockpit, offering both practical advantages and a modern, high-quality appearance. The electric toilets and onboard mattresses have also already been renewed.

At the same time, the current condition of the vessel should be viewed honestly and transparently: the technical foundation is strong, while the cosmetic and finishing work remains incomplete. The entire interior requires comprehensive cosmetic refurbishment. Many wooden surfaces should be refinished and re-varnished in order to restore the warm and high-quality appearance of the interior. The interior layout itself is functional and present, but requires craftsmanship, detailing, and aesthetic finishing.

Cosmetic and finishing work is also required on deck. Gelcoat repairs are necessary in several areas, and parts of the deck show uneven surfaces that should be professionally refinished.

The “Kaimana” is therefore not a classic turnkey cruising yacht, but rather a project for buyers who appreciate solid fundamentals, long-term potential, and economic common sense. Anyone looking for a perfectly finished Bahia 46 will not find it here. However, buyers who understand that new engines, new electrical systems, new navigation electronics, and modern onboard systems represent the most expensive and important investments will quickly recognize the true value of this opportunity.

The “Kaimana” offers the rare possibility to acquire a technically already largely renewed bluewater catamaran project and complete the remaining work according to one’s own standards and preferences. For owners with technical understanding, refit experience, or the desire to finish a high-quality cruising yacht individually, this represents an exceptionally attractive opportunity.
