General Information
Noe is a wooden pasara (traditional Dalmatian boat) with a cabin and upper cabin. The cabin, upper cabin, and deck are fiberglass-coated. It has a bow cabin with a V-berth, a main cabin with two berths, a covered cockpit, and an open stern section. The engine is a Volvo MD7B with two cylinders. The boat is 9m in overall length and 2.20m in beam. The ribs are oak and the planking is pine. The stern transom is also oak. It has a mast stub and boom, whereas it previously had a 9-meter mast and a 1-meter bowsprit. It has a longitudinal lead keel of 600 kg. It is steered either by a tiller at the stern or a wheel in the upper cabin. Cruising speed is 6.5 knots, and it sails nicely as it is very elegant. If the mast is restored, the rudder blade should be slightly enlarged to allow easier turning into the wind.
History
Noe was built in 1967 in Šibenik, commissioned by its first owner, Captain Niko Botica, under the name Marisa. Niko was a deep-sea captain and Šibenik pilot, and a passionate lover of the sea. Every year he would travel from Šibenik to his native Račišće on Korčula, and often sailed around the surrounding Šibenik islands. He also took Noe on longer voyages — twice across the Adriatic to Ancona, and once to Venice. Since none of Niko's children showed any interest in the boat, he decided to sell it. We came across the listing in the magazine "More" and fell in love with the boat. As it happened, Captain Niko was friends with my relatives in Šibenik, and had attended the Maritime School in Dubrovnik with my uncle and my mother. We bought the boat, and I sailed it back to Split together with Captain Niko, after which he parted with the boat in tears, while we began to enjoy it and cruise every year.
Maintenance and Condition
We bought the boat in 2003, and after a few years of use we discovered that the stern section was quite weak, so Noe was renovated in 2007 — all worn parts were replaced, including the stern post, some ribs, the entire stern transom, and part of the planking. The repairs were carried out by master craftsman Lovre from the Split marina at Spinut, together with master Denis from Jezera. At that time the mast was also repaired, as it had been damaged at the joint with the boom.
The boat is hauled out every year and well maintained, and the hull does not leak. The most recent change was a few years ago, when the mast again showed signs of damage and we decided to shorten it to the length of the stub mast, as we were sailing very little. All the hardware from the original mast and the roller furling foresail are preserved, and the original wooden rolling boom remains on the boat. The sails have also been kept.
