1997/98 Moody 36 Centre Cockpit Bilge Keel | Rare Shallow-Draft Cruiser

Designed by Bill Dixon and built by Marine Projects, “Avalon of Hamble” is an exceptionally well-specified example of the sought-after Moody 36 Centre Cockpit and one of just fifteen rare bilge keel versions. Drawing only 1.2m, she offers outstanding shallow-draft cruising capability, ideal for coastal exploration, creek crawling and safe drying out, while retaining the solid, sea-kindly performance Moody yachts are renowned for. Her centre cockpit with wheel steering ensures secure, comfortable short-handed sailing.

Powered by a Volvo MD2040 40hp engine (1,561 hours, Feb 2026) with saildrive and folding prop, plus a Vetus 55kgf bow thruster (new 6-bladed prop 2023), manoeuvring is effortless. Tankage includes 218L fuel, 327L water and 30L holding tank. The Selden sloop rig (standing rigging 2016) carries Hyde fully battened mainsail, furling genoa and Crusader cruising chute, with Lewmar self-tailing winches for easy handling.

A 2023 refit added new sprayhood, cockpit enclosure, bimini, stackpack, 110W Marlec solar panel and upgraded batteries, enhancing genuine off-grid cruising. Below decks, seven berths across two cabins include a spacious aft owner’s suite, with Eberspacher heating, full galley and comprehensive Raymarine navigation suite.

Freshly antifouled and prepared for 2026, she is ashore at Birdham Pool Marina and ready for inspection — a rare opportunity to secure a cruising-ready Moody 36CC.

The condition or level of safety equipment on board is not to be negotiated on following survey. It is likely to be listed by most surveyors but is not structural or an integral working part of the vessel and is not to be used to further negotiate the price down after survey. We strongly suggest that for your own personal safety that when purchasing a yacht you provide new safety equipment rather than relying on second hand gear.

Should you become the new owner of this yacht then the responsibility to re-register or update official bodies for items such as EPIRB, VHF, MMSI or AIS becomes yours.
