81m Canadian Vickers Expedition Yacht | Icebreaker Hull | 2025 Refit
The Narrative
WATCH BART ROBERTS FULL WALKTHROUGH VIDEO ON THIS PAGE
Originally commissioned in 1963 by the Canadian Vickers shipyard for the Canadian Coast Guard, Bart Roberts was engineered as a self-sufficient icebreaker and research vessel. This heavy-displacement heritage provides the structural integrity required for high-latitude exploration. In 2001, the vessel underwent a comprehensive conversion into a luxury expedition yacht, repurposing her industrial capabilities for private long-range cruising. Most recently, she completed a significant hull refit in 2024–2025, which involved ultrasonic testing, targeted hull plate replacement, fresh exterior paint, and a full technical systems service. A detailed refit report is available for review.
The interior arrangement spans six deck levels, all connected by a heavy-duty, 8-person elevator capable of transporting guests and luggage seamlessly between decks. Accommodation is provided for up to 20 guests across 10 en suite staterooms, each styled with a distinct Spanish colonial aesthetic. The layout includes a dedicated movie theater, a gymnasium, a large main salon, and a formal dining room capable of seating the full guest capacity. A professional-grade stainless steel galley supports long-endurance provisioning.
The exterior decks are configured for utility and tender operations. The expansive foredeck is reinforced to carry large tenders and toys up to 60 feet in length, serviced by heavy-lift cranes. Aviation facilities include a certified helipad and a dedicated hangar, allowing for secure helicopter storage during ocean crossings. Water access is managed via a starboard-side hydraulic swim platform. A large midships cargo hold provides substantial storage for spare parts and provisions, ensuring autonomy for extended periods at sea.
