[Unter einem Daysailor wird ein Segelboot bis zirka neun Meter Länge mit Kiel als Ballastanteil verstanden. Im Regelfall weist der Daysailer weder Kabine, noch Kajüte auf, kann aber unter dem geschlossenen Vordeck anstelle von Stauraum eine kleine sogenannte Schlupfkoje beherbergen. Dabei handelt es sich um einen vor Wind und Wasser geschützten, jedoch zum Cockpit hin offenen Raum. Bootstypen wie Yngling, Solas, Dias, Trias, Star, Tempest usw. werden als Daysailer bezeichnet. Wie auch bei anderen Kategorisierungen üblich, unterliegt auch der Begriff Daysailer Aufweichungen. So können letztendlich auch kleinere Kabinenboote, die über einen Wohnbereich unter Deck verfügen, als Daysailer bezeichnet werden. Im Gegensatz zur Segelyacht sind sie allerdings nicht als Selbstversorger für einen längeren Aufenthalt auf hoher See eingerichtet. Die bevorzugten Einsatzreviere für den Daysailer sind Binnenreviere und küstennahe, geschützte Salzwasser Reviere. Der Einsatzbereich des Daysailers ist vielfältig. Abhängig von der Marke und der Besegelung wird der Daysailer in gleicher Weise von Familien und Regattacrews gesegelt. Beliebt sind Daysailer auch bei Segelschulen und in Yachtclubs zur Jugendförderung.]
