[Die Hardtop Yacht findet ihren Ursprung in den skandinavischen Ländern. Somit waren es am Anfang Werften aus dem Nordrevier, die Motoryachten als Hardtop Yacht anbieten. Darunter bekannte Motoryacht Marken wie Nidelv, Saga, Nimbus, Marex usw. Später wurde die Hardtop Yacht international angeboten. Entstanden ist die Hardtop Yacht als Variante zum Kabinenboot mit grossen offenem Cockpit und Stoffverdeck, wie es in Norwegen, Schweden oder Finnland Tradition besitzt. Der Wunsch nach Allwetter Tauglichkeit und einfacherer Handhabung, hat die Werften veranlasst, das offene Cockpit – meist mit Sitzgelegenheiten und einer kleinen Pantry ausgestattet – mit einer fixen Dachkonstruktion und abschliessbarem, verglasten Heckeingang zu versehen. Oftmals ist die Hardtop Yacht als schneller Verdränger konzipiert und wird wie der Verdränger als gemütliche Wanderyacht eingesetzt. Jedoch im Gegensatz zum Verdränger mit höherem Geschwindigkeitspotential. Die Hardtop Yacht zeichnet sich durch einen grossen Salon mit guter Rundumsicht aus. Nasszelle und Schlafbereich liegen tiefer und sind im Bug, je nach Modell auch im Heck untergebracht. Ursprünglich dienten Diesel-Einzelanlagen zur Fortbewegung. Neuere Modelle können Doppelinstallationen aufweisen und auch sportliche Gleityachten darstellen. Wie auszugsweise von Elan, Jeanneau, Regal, Bavaria usw.]
