The vessel has always had the same owner, but due to the owner’s age, it is now time to find a new owner for the ship.
The yacht MULLER was built in 1976 at the Jacobsens Plads shipyard in the small town of Troense, located south of Svendborg, Denmark.
For about 200 years, sailing schooners were built at Jacobsens Plads.
The last one was built in 1921. From 1974 to 1984, wooden ships were once again built at the shipyard—a total of 11 vessels, all yachts ranging in length from 28 to 36 feet, and one 46-foot schooner. All 11 vessels were built for German and Danish owners.
MULLER was built as the third vessel in 1976 and launched in early 1977. MULLER was built indoors using traditional wooden shipbuilding methods. The keel, stern, bow, frames, and beams are made of oak; the hull is made of Douglas fir; and the deck is made of teak. The teak used for the deck is reclaimed from an old icebreaker and is of higher quality than new teak. The mast and spars are made of thuja wood, which is particularly well-suited for this purpose.
MULLER is laid out with an aft cabin, an engine room beneath the cockpit, a saloon amidships, a galley, and a forward cabin, providing a total of six berths.
After the launch, the ship was sailed to its home port, Graasten. The mast and spars were lying on the deck. The shipyard’s contract did not include rigging the vessel; it was only to supply the mast and spars. MULLER was to be rigged with a traditional gaff rig for a Danish yacht—a single-piece mast and four sails: mainsail, topsail, staysail, and jib. To achieve this, Christian Nielsen from the Danish Maritime Museum at Kronborg Castle was consulted for advice and guidance while the rigging was being built. The ship demonstrated excellent qualities.
MULLER is much more than a beautiful, classic sailboat—she is a vessel with a long and well-documented sailing history.
In 2026, it will be 50 years since MULLER was commissioned and her hull was built. Throughout all these years, she has been owned by a passionate sailor who will turn 82 in 2026. Consequently, sailing activity has been limited in recent years, but the boat still carries a wealth of memories from Danish and foreign waters.
From 1977 to 1985, MULLER was based in Gråsten, where most of her sailing took place in Flensburg Fjord and along the German Baltic Sea coast. Since 1985, the ship has been based in Troense on South Funen.
As early as 1980, MULLER participated in the first Rum Regatta in Flensburg—a traditional sailing race for classic vessels. This was followed by many years of participation with several impressive finishes, including class victories among the Danish yachts as well as numerous second-place finishes, in which the coveted bottle of rum was won. MULLER has also participated several times in the Apfelfahrt, organized by Museumshafen Flensburg.
The ship has also undertaken longer voyages in German and Baltic waters. MULLER has sailed around Rügen twice. On the first trip, the crew visited Stralsund, among other places, while the second trip included participation in a regatta for gaff-rigged vessels. Along the way, they visited Greifswald via the beautiful canal leading into the city—a voyage that is still remembered as a special experience.
MULLER has also been invited to Hamburg on two special occasions. The first time, the ship took part in the celebration of the Port of Hamburg’s 800th anniversary, and the second time in Altona’s 450th anniversary as a market town. Both invitations attest to the ship’s historical value and its connection to the classic sailing community.
After the most recent trip to Hamburg, the voyage continued through the German Bight and the Wadden Sea, on into the Eider River and through the historic Eider Canal to the Kiel Canal, before setting course once again for the Baltic Sea. Along the way, the charming town of Friedrichstadt was visited—yet another memorable stop in MULLER’s impressive sailing history.
The next owner will acquire not only a beautiful classic yacht, but also a piece of living Danish sailing history, with countless experiences and traditions on board.
