A Classic Nauticat 33 Ready for Her Next Adventure

It is with sad and mixed emotions that I am offering “Moroccan in the Free World” for sale.
She is a classic Nauticat 33 Mk1, built in 1976, and has recently undergone an extensive two-year refit. A great deal of work has been carried out on the hull, decks, systems, plumbing, electrical installation, engine, rigging and accommodation.

I have more than 150 photographs and videos documenting the work, which are available to interested buyers.

Most importantly, she is not simply a boat that has been sitting in a marina after a refit. I have just completed approximately 1,300 nautical miles, with 32 stops and locations, sailing from Leros, Greece, to Kotor, Montenegro.
During seven months of cruising, she performed extremely well, with no significant problems or breakdowns.

The Nauticat 33 is well known as a capable motor-sailer and comfortable liveaboard yacht. Her excellent headroom and enclosed pilothouse make her particularly enjoyable in poor weather, allowing the skipper to stay warm, dry and comfortable while underway.

I purchased her in March 2024 with the intention of cruising around the world. Unfortunately, circumstances have changed and those plans are no longer possible.
That is the reason this opportunity is now available for her next owner.

Hull, Underwater Work & Decks
The underwater hull received extensive attention during the refit.

The existing antifouling and gelcoat below the waterline were removed and the hull was allowed to dry. It was then treated with:
Two layers of epoxy resin
Two coats of epoxy primer
Underwater paint
Hard racing antifouling
Above the waterline, several layers of old paint were removed, revealing the original blue-and-white gelcoat. The hull was then professionally refinished in a beautiful turquoise finish.
The result is a boat that looks fresh, clean and distinctive.

Decks & Superstructure
The decks and saloon deckhouse were also substantially reconstructed.
New beams and marine plywood were installed, followed by epoxy-bonded fiberglass and a high-quality nonslip deck finish.

A major part of this work was carried out by an experienced English master carpenter, who spent approximately two years working on the boat. His craftsmanship, choice of materials and attention to detail are noticeable throughout.
The feeling inside is less like a typical older yacht and more like a comfortable, personal home on the water.

The View
One of the special features of this Nauticat is the amount of natural light and visibility.
The boat has approximately 24 windows providing an almost 360° view, together with three hatches.
All windows and hatches have been carefully sealed and are in very good condition. During my recent seven-month cruise, I did not experience leaking through the windows or hatches.

Accommodation
The interior has been extensively refreshed and improved.

There is generous storage throughout the boat, with cabinets and lockers that have been renewed and freshly painted.

The boat can comfortably sleep:
2 people in the queen-size forward bed
2 people in the aft cabin
An additional person can sleep in the pilothouse if required

Pilothouse
The pilothouse is one of the nicest areas of the boat.

It features:

It is a very pleasant place to sit, relax, have a drink and enjoy the view while cruising or at anchor.

New 12V / 220V portable, whisper-quiet compressor refrigerator

Hot-water appliances
Stainless-steel outdoor barbecue
There are also several propane tanks, including European and Albania/Montenegro-compatible bottles.

Plumbing & Water Systems
The domestic plumbing has been extensively renewed.
Features include:
New freshwater plumbing
300-liter freshwater tank
Additional 200-liter freshwater bladder installed in the bilge
Composting toilets With dedicated motors for venting exhaust line
Black-water tanks removed
Three independent bilge pumps, each with its own circuit switch
Shower enclosure with sink and cabinet
Unique privacy door arrangement for the toilet and shower area
The hot-water heater is currently disconnected but remains available for reconnection to shore power.

Engine & Fuel System
The boat is powered by a Ford Lehman 90 HP diesel engine.
Engine hours: 5,232

The engine has been checked and overhauled, including:
Injector pump
Injectors
New marine alternator
New heat exchanger
New engine-oil cooler
New transmission-oil cooler
New 65-amp alternator
Brand-new starter
New raw-water pump
Rebuilt exhaust system
Four new batteries — two AGM and two wet-cell.
There are many spare parts for the engine, such as belts, fuel filter, oil filters, impellers hoses,
also included 2 x 20 liters Valvoline diesel motor oil 10/40

The fuel system includes a 300-liter stainless-steel diesel tank and a dual fuel-filter arrangement. Also, additional three full Jerry cans
The total fuel on the spot at this moment 400 Liters
The engine currently runs very well and gives approximately 6–7 knots at 1,500 RPM.
From turning the ignition switch on to the engine running is approximately two seconds, with no hesitation.

Navigation & Electronics

The boat currently has a good selection of navigation and communication equipment.
These include:
Original installed autopilot
Raymarine VHF/radio
Simrad DCM/VHF system and spare VHF
Garmin GPS
Lowrance GPS/fishfinder
Furuno radar
Handheld VHF/walkie-talkie
Iridium Portable satellite communicator
T-Mobile cellular system

The electronics are negotiable.
If a buyer prefers to install their own modern navigation system, I am willing to discuss removing some or all of the existing electronics.

Bow Thruster, Seacocks & Shaft
The bow thruster has been serviced/worked on.
All seacocks have been replaced with new valves.
A dripless shaft seal has also been installed, while retaining the original propeller.

Electrical System
The electrical system has been significantly modernized.
It includes:
12V / 220V system
Pure sine-wave 2,000W inverter/charger
Two separate battery banks 4 batteries
New AC/DC charge controller
Shore-power charging
Wireless remote-controlled high-beam searchlight
Customized LED cabin lighting
Two 250W solar panels (500w)
Victron solar charge controller, 50/100A

There are also additional 3x100 w solar panels and electrical spare parts / equipment included with the boat.

Anchors & Ground Tackle
There are four anchors for different applications
Two installed on the bowsprit
Two additional anchors in storage

And two 100 m galvanized chain in good condition one in use and one in storage

The original stainless-steel hardware remains onboard and the rigging has been inspected and found to be in good order.

Mast & Sails
The boat retains her original mast and boom.

The boom has rotating manual riffing roller furling, and the Genoa also has roller furling.
There are five sails in total, including:

The sails are in fair condition.

Dinghy & Outboard



Included is an inflatable fiberglass hard bottom dinghy with:

The intention was always to create a comfortable, dependable cruising home — and that is what she has become.

The price will depend partly on which equipment and personal items the buyer wishes to take.

Reasonable offers will be considered.

If a buyer wants to take the boat out of the water and complete additional polishing/painting themselves, we can also discuss a corresponding reduction in price.

There is also the possibility of purchasing the boat fully equipped and ready to move aboard, including dishes, bedding, towels and many other household and cruising items.

A survey was carried out approximately ten years ago and I have a copy available.
A new survey, if desired by the buyer, would be at the buyer’s expense.

A Personal Note
I bought this boat with the dream of cruising the world.
Circumstances have unfortunately changed, and I can no longer continue with that plan.

I would therefore like to see her go to someone who will appreciate what she is: a classic Nauticat with a huge amount of character, a major refit behind her, and the ability to take her new owner cruising immediately.

She has just completed a long cruise successfully.

Now she is ready for someone else to continue the journey.
