Malö 96 – classic Swedish-built cruising yacht, located in Pula, Croatia.
A solid and beautifully built Scandinavian cruiser from Malö Yachts, known for quality construction, seaworthiness and traditional craftsmanship.
Over the last years, substantial investment has been made in the yacht. The focus was deliberately placed on the important and expensive technical areas – hull, engine, deck, sails, rigging and equipment.
The yacht is ready to sail, while some cosmetic work remains, particularly refreshing the original wooden interior. This is reflected in the asking price and makes the boat an interesting opportunity for someone looking for a genuine Malö without paying the price of a fully cosmetically restored example.

What still needs attention
I prefer to describe the yacht openly and realistically.
This is a classic yacht of approximately 40 years of age and is not being offered as a fully restored show boat.
The most visible area for improvement is the beautiful original Malö wooden interior. The woodwork is fundamentally part of the yacht’s character, but its surfaces now need cleaning, polishing and refinishing in several areas.
This is mainly a cosmetic refurbishment of the existing woodwork, rather than replacement of the interior. A relatively straightforward interior refresh could therefore make a significant visual improvement.
For complete transparency, the following items have not been renewed:
- most of the existing electrical installation
- forestay and backstay
- running rigging
There are also several smaller maintenance and cosmetic jobs typical of a yacht of this age.
The heating system is installed, but the heater itself requires servicing or replacement.
These points have been taken into consideration in the asking price.
Why this Malö 96?
Much of the expensive work that owners of older yachts eventually face has already been addressed:
underwater hull treatment – anti-osmosis protection – new engine – teak deck removed and renewed with KiwiGrip – new OneSails mainsail and genoa – partly renewed standing rigging – Victron solar system – new sprayhood and bimini.
Rather than paying substantially more for a cosmetically restored example, the next owner can acquire a genuine Swedish-built Malö with the major investments already made and gradually refresh the remaining cosmetic details according to their own taste.
The result is a very capable classic Scandinavian cruiser at an attractive entry price.
