Overview
SUR is a first-generation Pogo 40 built by Chantier Structures (2006), which brilliantly paved the way for the first Class 40s. After an initial career in offshore racing, she has been used as a fast cruiser since 2012 in the Atlantic (Azores) and the western Mediterranean.
In 2015, she underwent a complete refit to create a smart blend of comfort and speed without altering her DNA. One year of work, a budget of €50,000, a professional team from the shipyard, and a renowned designer focused on the interior layout
Result: a Class 40 with real cabins, a bathroom, and a kitchen that remains simple and lightweight.
This was also an opportunity for the former owner to invest in a complete set of Hydranet sails, a full B&G electronics system, and an electrical system based on a lithium-ion battery, Victron controllers, and a Philippi automated steering system.
The boat is also equipped with solar panels on a custom-built frame, a removable Watt&Sea hydrogenerator, and a watermaker that has been removed as it is not currently in use.
The result is impressive, as SUR combines all the reassuring features of a Pogo 40 from the Structures shipyard (designed for solo sailing, unsinkable, exposed systems, and a focus on simplicity rather than excess) with a “custom-made” interior layout that sets it apart: in short, there is only one like it.
Comparable to a cruising version of the S1 but in a premium version (superior finish and equipment).
It is equipped for the open sea, long-distance voyages, and fast cruising.
Its deck configuration remains that of a boat designed for solo sailing. The ballast system is in place but has not been used for several years. The boat is, of course, unsinkable.
