Dinghy
A dinghy is a yacht's tender. It is carried on deck, in davits or towed astern, and shuttles between the main boat and the shore whenever there is no berth free at the dock.

What is a dinghy?
The term comes from English (dinghy) and refers to the small tender that the crew uses to get ashore from an anchorage or a mooring. Dinghies are usually two to four meters long and are either rowed or driven by a small outboard motor, increasingly an electric one.
Inflatable, rigid hull or RIB
The most common type is the inflatable dinghy with an air, slatted or aluminum floor, because it is light and can be stowed on board. Dinghies with a rigid hull made of GRP or aluminum row better and take more punishment, but they need space on deck or in the davits. Small RIBs with a rigid hull and inflatable tubes combine both and can carry a more powerful engine.
What to look for when buying
Weight and packed size are crucial, so that the dinghy suits your yacht and the way you stow it. On inflatable dinghies, check the seams, valves and floor; on rigid-hull boats, check the hull and any repaired areas. Pay attention to the permitted engine power and number of people on board, as well as to complete equipment with oars, oarlocks, pump and drain plug. At Boat24 you will find dinghies from private sellers and dealers across Europe.
