Danish shipyards have long been legendary – and not just in Northern Europe. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, X-Yachts made the leap to the Atlantic and the Mediterranean – with fast performance cruisers that caused, and still cause, a stir as racing yachts. A success story you can be part of at Boat24.

Performance sailing taken literally
From the 7.90 m sprinter to the 20-plus-meter luxury performance cruiser – a unique success story.
A synthesis of sailing performance and luxurious comfort
The world turned upside down: normally, yards use their first models to serve a market that promises the safest possible sales figures – and therefore end up with cruising sailors and cruisers. But brothers Niels and Lars Jeppesen had something else in mind when they delivered their first boat in 1979: with the X 79, they wanted to sail fast, faster, fastest. And win others over to their concept that way.
Which they managed with ease: in its very first year, the small Danish speedster won what was then the world's largest regatta, the Sjaelland Rundt. To this day, hundreds of units later, the X 79 has remained a sought-after racer on the used boat market.
Reasonable prices for real performance
The X 79 had struck a chord. Suddenly it became clear that many offshore sailors would much rather sail faster and more sportily than their mostly rather sluggish boats allowed. Granted, there had been excellent offshore racing boats before. But very few that were series-built and delivered genuine racing performance at reasonable prices.
As early as 1981, the X 102, developed to the Three-Quarter Ton Rule, was delivered, followed by various designs based on the IOR rules. With the X-99 (later recognized as an ISAF One Design class), 1985 brought a particularly successful design: more than 600 boats were sold!
From the early 1990s, the by then highly successful and widely acclaimed X-Yachts yard developed performance cruisers (many insiders claim the term was coined by the Danes in the first place): long-distance cruising yachts in various size classes that let you sail from A to B remarkably fast and sportily.
Something from both worlds
Today, the still successful yard (where both Jeppesen brothers remain active) offers three model ranges that appeal to pure cruiser and racer fans among offshore sailors just as much as to sporty, ambitious cruising sailors who want a share of both worlds.
Last but not least: the build quality of the X-Yachts is Scandinavian as always – in other words, absolutely top-notch!
