2003 Nautors Swan 56, EUR 449,000
The Swan 56 is one of the yachts that particularly impressively embodies Nautor Swan’s commitment to quality, seaworthiness and timeless design. Designed by renowned designer German Frers, she combines solid construction with excellent sailing characteristics and an interior designed for extended cruising. At 17.53 metres in length, she offers ample space for longer stays on board while retaining the clean and functional lines characteristic of a Swan.
The Swan 56 offered here, “GENESTHO”, was built in 2003 and has been in the ownership of her current owner for more than ten years. During this time, the yacht has not only been regularly used but also consistently maintained and technically upgraded. Her cruising history is particularly impressive: the current owner sailed the Swan 56 to Australia as part of the ARC. A voyage covering such great distances and passing through different cruising grounds provides valuable insight into a yacht’s practical suitability for extended passages.
Before departing for Australia, the Swan 56 underwent extensive work and was modernised in key areas. Among other things, the standing rigging was renewed in 2024, as was the running rigging using high-load Dyneema. Further technical systems were also overhauled before or during the voyage. The generator was refitted in 2025, the service batteries were replaced in 2025, and the watermaker was also overhauled. The yacht was therefore deliberately maintained to a contemporary technical standard, both for the journey and for many years of further use.
After completing further minor upgrades in Australia, the Swan 56 was transported back to Germany by container ship and brought to Kiel. There, she was once again placed in a shed and comprehensively prepared. The care and attention given to the yacht are immediately apparent today: she presents in an exceptionally clean and very well-maintained condition. The teak interior is in very good condition, while the yacht also conveys an exceptionally neat and almost immaculate impression on deck.
A particularly interesting feature of this Swan 56 is her unusual interior layout. This yacht features a spacious master cabin in the bow, forward of the saloon. Behind it is the central saloon with the galley and living area. Two further cabins are located aft: one with a conventional double berth and one with two comparatively spacious bunk berths. This layout creates a clear separation between the owners’ private area forward and the two aft cabins, making the yacht particularly well suited to extended cruising with family or guests. At the same time, such a layout, clearly designed for comfortable cruising, is comparatively rare among Swan 56 yachts currently available on the market.
It is precisely this combination of her classic German Frers design, proven Swan build quality, rare cruising layout and documented cruising history that makes “GENESTHO” particularly interesting. She has not merely been maintained over many years, but has genuinely been used for what she was designed for: extended cruising and life on board.
After more than ten years under the ownership of her current owner, a voyage to Australia, extensive work carried out there and a further comprehensive preparation following her return to Kiel, Hull #36 now presents as an exceptionally well-maintained and extensively modernised Swan 56. A yacht with history, substance and a rarely found, comfortable layout.
“GENESTHO” is lying in Kiel and can be viewed by appointment.
