Notes
1977 Sparkman and Stephens Swan 38, EUR 85,000
Classic S&S Swan 38 from 1977, built by Nautor Swan in Finland, hull number 38/096. Skylark is a rare classic sailing yacht with strong substance, proven sailing qualities and honest refit potential. The yacht’s registration has been updated. She is offered with a transparent condition description, including known technical points and the clear note that not all sails and additional equipment are currently located on board in Mallorca.
Description
The S&S Swan 38 “Skylark” is a genuine classic Nautor Swan, designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built in Finland in 1977. Hull number 38/096, she belongs to a limited production series of only 116 yachts and remains an attractive opportunity for buyers looking for a true classic cruiser-racer with pedigree, character and strong sailing qualities.
Originally launched as “Jacobite” in the United Kingdom, Skylark has a well-documented sailing background and has shown her qualities in the Solent, at Cowes Week and at the Swan European Regatta. She is now lying in Mallorca and available for viewings by appointment.
Skylark is equipped with a Bukh Prima 30 hp diesel engine from 2000, a gearbox replaced in 2011, a 2-blade MaxProp feathering propeller, Z-Spars mast and boom from 2011, Navtec rod rigging, hydraulic backstay, Raymarine navigation electronics, AIS, autopilot and a classic teak interior.
The yacht’s registration has been updated. This is an important document point for the further sales process and gives serious buyers a clearer basis for the next step.
Skylark is now being offered with a transparent and realistic condition description. During a recent inspection, sea trial and lift-out in Mallorca, several points were identified which should be taken into account by a serious buyer. These include an osmosis finding or osmosis suspicion in the keel area, seacocks which are partly not moving freely, inspection requirements around the teak deck and caulking, and the need to finally confirm the complete inventory, sail package and additional equipment with the owner.
Important note for interested buyers: Some of the sails and additional equipment mentioned in previous documentation are understood not to be directly on board in Mallorca. These items are therefore not fully available for a normal viewing on site and must be clearly confirmed and organised with the owner before purchase or handover.
For this reason, Skylark should not be considered a fully finished turn-key yacht for a buyer expecting a classic Swan without further work. She is best suited to an experienced buyer who understands classic yachts and is looking for a rare Nautor Swan with strong substance, genuine history and realistic refit potential.
A professional yard period with technical inspection, underwater hull assessment, keel area evaluation, seacock review, teak deck and caulking inspection, and final confirmation of inventory and sails is recommended.
Asking price
€85,000
The asking price reflects the Nautor Swan pedigree, the Sparkman & Stephens design, the rarity of the model, the updated registration and the known works which a buyer should inspect and budget for.
Viewing
Viewings are available by appointment in Mallorca. A pre-purchase survey, lift-out and professional technical inspection are strongly recommended. Further documents can be reviewed in the context of a serious viewing or concrete purchase interest.
