Die Southerly 420 mit Swing Keel ist eine für flache Gewässer ideal geeignete Yacht. Durch die gußeiserne Bodenplatte, durch die der Eisenkiel komplett einschwenkt, ist das Trockenfallen im Watt problemlos und aufrecht möglich. Auch die Boddengewässer können somit sehr gut befahren werden.
Durch ihren 2,67 m tiefen Kiel sind die Segeleigenschaften sehr gut. Auf 0,84 m reduzierbar.
Die Yacht liegt durch ihr hohes Gewicht und die stabile Bauweise sehr angenehm in der Welle. Sanftes Ein- und Austauchen.
Hochbelastbares GFK-Laminat, handlaminiert nach den patentierten Vorgaben des Northshore Nordseal Laminat Systems mit extra Verstärkungen in den Lastzonen aus multiaxialen und unidirektionalen Glasgelegen. Zum Kiel hin nimmt die Laminatstärke progressiv zu. Zusätzlich wird der Rumpf durch den Kielschwertkasten, der als integrales Bauteil in den Rumpf einlaminiert ist, verstärkt. Sandwich-Längststringer verstärken den Rumpf auf der gesamten Schiffslänge oberhalb der Wasseroberfläche. Alle Schotten sind fest an den Rumpf laminiert. Wegen des patentierten Nordseal Anti-Osmose-Systems von Northshore besteht maximaler Schutz gegen Osmose.
Die Kielschuhgrundplatte ist aus Gußeisen gefertigt (cirka 2t schwer), in den Rumpf eingelassen und mit Edelstahlkielbolzen befestigt. Sie dient als Trockenfallschutz und gibt der Kieleinheit zusätzliche Verwindungssteife.
Die profilierte Kielflosse mit ca. 2t Eigengewicht ist aus Gußeisen und an einem wartungsfreien Scharnier vorne oben aufgehängt. Beim Kielherablassen folgt dieser passiv seinem Eigengewicht, das Aufholen folgt einer elektrohydraulischen Pumpe. Bei längerem Aufholen kann der Kiel mit einem Edelstahlbolzen arretiert werden, um die Mechanik zu entlasten.

The Southerly 420 with Swing Keel is a yacht ideally suited for shallow waters. The cast-iron bottom plate, through which the iron keel swings in completely, makes it possible to fall dry in the mudflats upright and without any problems. The Bodden waters can therefore also be navigated very well.
Thanks to her 2.67 m deep keel, the sailing characteristics are very good. Can be reduced to 0.84 m.

Heavy-duty GRP laminate, hand-laminated according to the patented specifications of the Northshore Nordseal laminate system with extra reinforcements in the load zones made of multiaxial and unidirectional glass fabrics. The laminate thickness increases progressively towards the keel. In addition, the hull is reinforced by the keel centerboard box, which is laminated into the hull as an integral component. Longitudinal sandwich stringers reinforce the hull along the entire length of the ship above the water surface. All bulkheads are firmly laminated to the hull. Maximum protection against osmosis is provided by Northshore's patented Nordseal anti-osmosis system.
The keel shoe base plate is made of cast iron (weighing approx. 2 tons), embedded in the hull and fastened with stainless steel keel bolts. It serves as dry-fall protection and gives the keel unit additional torsional rigidity.
The profiled keel fin with a dead weight of approx. 2 tons is made of cast iron and is suspended from a maintenance-free hinge at the top front. When the keel is lowered, it follows its own weight passively, while an electro-hydraulic pump is used to raise it. For longer haul-outs, the keel can be locked with a stainless steel bolt to relieve the load on the mechanism.
