The Vessel
She was built in Thurø, Denmark, in 1924, constructed entirely from oak. The vessel was originally a private pleasure yacht and completed several circumnavigations between 1975 and 1980.
Following a restoration aimed at preserving the vessel’s historical authenticity, she was awarded the title “Denmark’s Most Beautiful Galleas.”
After completing her world voyages and spending a period in the West Indies and the Caribbean, Johanne Marie came to Norway and became part of the Norwegian fleet of sailing heritage vessels. Since then, she has become a popular charter vessel in Norway and is regarded as a ship in a class of its own.
In 1997, Johanne Marie was upgraded with a new toilet system and modern propulsion machinery, and the main saloon was expanded to accommodate up to 40 guests. This allowed the vessel to combine historic charm with modern comfort.
In 2024, Johanne Marie celebrated her 100-year anniversary, marking a century since her construction. She continues to be a popular and comfortable charter vessel, bringing a sense of historic elegance to Norwegian waters.
