Open, Cabin or Walkaround: for decades, Saver has focused on compact GRP powerboats, usually staying just under the magic ten-meter mark. With the new 35 GT, that premise is "stretched" a little – or rather, cleverly reinterpreted.

Anyone outside Italy who has never heard the name Saver is in good company. The Sicilian shipyard is not one of the internationally omnipresent yacht brands, but it has been building powerboats since 1986. Saver is established above all in Southern Europe and relies on powerboat standards such as GRP hulls, outboard motors and plenty of usable and living space.
A Sicilian family story
Saver Imbarcazioni was founded in 1986 in Piraino in the province of Messina. The driving force behind it was Giuseppe Sorbera; later his children joined the company as well. To this day, Saver is run as a family business. The shipyard took an important step towards growth in 2002 with the newly occupied production site in Piraino. Around 6,000 square meters of production space are available there, including an in-house joinery. In addition, there is a site of about 4,000 square meters in neighboring Gioiosa Marea, where hulls and GRP components are manufactured. Throughout, Saver has remained a specialist in comparatively compact powerboats.
No unnecessary growth
What is remarkable is the long-standing focus on boats at or below ten meters of registered length. In Italy, there is a very practical reason for this: up to a hull length of ten meters, recreational boats generally count as "natanti da diporto" and are subject to simpler registration rules than larger "imbarcazioni da diporto". Saver makes consistent use of this limit. The range extends from small open boats and cabin cruisers to impressive walkarounds. The aim is less spectacular design than fitting as much cockpit, sun lounger and storage space as possible – and, on the larger models, overnight comfort too – into manageable dimensions.
Open: onto the water without any fuss
The Open models form the entry point. The Saver 520 Open is a little over five meters long; above it come larger variants such as the 585 Open and the 19 Open. The concept is classic Mediterranean: an open cockpit, a central or sheltered helm position, seating and sunbathing areas – without unnecessarily much boat around them. That makes these Savers ideal above all for day trips, swimming excursions and coastal cruising. Outboards simplify propulsion and maintenance and keep space free inside the boat itself.
Walkaround: from dayboat to cruiser
The Walkaround range is considerably more extensive. Here the line-up stretches from compact models all the way to the Saver 330 Walkaround, which was the yard's flagship for a long time. The name says it all: side decks you can walk along, generous sunbathing areas in the bow and a cockpit that works for dining, sitting or sunbathing as required really do invite you to "walk around". On the larger models, a surprising amount of living space is added below deck. The 750 Walkaround measures 7.75 meters with a beam of 2.55 meters and can be fitted with two 175 hp outboards. Below deck there is a dinette that converts into a double berth and a separate head. The 330 Walkaround goes considerably further. At 9.96 meters in length and three meters in beam, it offers two sleeping areas, a galley and a bathroom. Up to two times 400 hp hang on the transom; it is certified for twelve people. That turns the classic dayboat into a small cruiser.
Cabin: a roof over your head
If you prefer more protection from the weather, Saver's Cabin range is the answer. Models such as the 690 Cabin Sport, 750 Cabin or 870 Cabin combine more enclosed superstructures with the compact dimensions typical of the brand.
Saver 35 GT: ten meters – after all?
With the Saver 35 GT, the yard is currently opening a new chapter. It is the new flagship and at the same time the start of a GT line. The measurements alone are interesting: the official certified length is 9.98 meters, but overall the 35 GT measures a proud 11.66 meters. With a beam of 3.50 meters, it offers a bow cabin with a double bed, a second sleeping cabin aft, a galley and a separate bathroom. The cockpit features an L-shaped sofa, a convertible table and an optional outdoor kitchen. The engine options make it finally clear that Saver is no longer operating in small-boat territory: two 350 hp outboards are recommended, and a maximum of two times 600 hp is possible.
Buying a used Saver boat
On the used market you will mainly find Saver Open, Cabin and Walkaround models from various generations. Besides the general condition of the hull, deck and fittings, particular attention should be paid to the outboards. Operating hours, service history, corrosion and the cooling system can matter more for running costs than a shiny gelcoat. Since Saver is less well known outside Southern Europe than some international volume brands, it is also worth taking a look at the dealer and service network at your future berth.
Sicilian precision work
Saver is not a yard for owners who want to show off as many meters of boat as possible in front of the dock. For four decades, the family business has pursued rather the opposite: to create as much usable powerboat as possible within a manageable length. From the small Open to the full-grown Walkaround, this recipe works with remarkable consistency. And the new 35 GT? Well, there are always exceptions to the rule!
