Blowing your own trumpet is part of the business. But the Norwegian Marex shipyard doesn't just talk a good game – it has every reason to!

Advertising is always a tricky business. When a shipyard claims that the owners of its boats are happier than the owners of other brands, you should take that with a grain of salt at first. But from the Norwegian shipyard Marex, you're happy to believe a statement like that! Hardly any other Scandinavian powerboat yard has collected as many international and national awards for its semi-custom production boats in recent years as this boatbuilding manufactory on the southern coast of Norway, which has been in business for more than four decades.
Four decades
Founded in 1973, the family business is today run by Espen and Thomas Aalrund, the second (family) generation. Marex boats are known for the highest quality of fit-out, but above all for outstanding handling, even in rough water.
In doing so, the Marex designers stay within a size and length range that is clearly geared toward sporty use of the boats: as of 2022, five Marex models between 31 and 37.5 feet in length are on offer, all of which are considered state of the art in Norwegian powerboat building.
18,400 sqm
Marex boats are built at two production sites: Arendal (Norway) and Kaunas (Lithuania). The total yard area covers 18,400 square meters. Marex employs more than 350 people, including 190 boatbuilders.
Powerboats from Marex are known for an exceptionally high resale value.
Incidentally, the name Marex is made up of the Latin terms mare and rex: sea and king. That makes the yard's slogan "King of the Seas" rather fitting and well deserved. For everything else – see above.
