De Grand Banks 42 Europa 'LOTUS' is een klassiek en tijdloze Grand Banks en nog altijd een van de meest gewilde modellen. 'LOTUS' is een van de jongste exemplaren van het oorspronkelijke 42 Europa-ontwerp, vóór American Marine overstapte op een nieuwe mal en gewijzigde indeling van onder andere het achterdek en de voorhut.


De afgelopen jaren voer LOTUS op de Middellandse Zee en maakte tochten naar onder meer Mallorca, Gibraltar, Marokko, Libië en Tunesië. Ze heeft zich bewezen als zeewaardig schip; de +-3000 motoruren zijn grotendeels tijdens deze langere reizen gemaakt.


De uitrusting is afgestemd op serieuze offshore vaart, met onder andere:

• Back-up elektrisch systeem
• Brandblusinstallatie in de motorruimte
• Elektrische toiletten
• Nachtverlichting in de salon
• EPIRB en Glendinning™ motor­synchronisatie
• Sleepanker, sleeptros en uitgebreide noodsignalen (pijlen, fakkels)
• Voorraad aan reserveonderdelen (filters, pakkingen, V-snaren)

Sinds 2020 is het schip in handen van een Nederlandse eigenaar (ex kapitein Grote Vaart), die haar zorgvuldig heeft gemoderniseerd. Zo is de navigatieapparatuur vernieuwd en het interieur opnieuw gestoffeerd. Ook technisch is veel vernieuwd aan de Ford Sabre-motoren, waaronder:

• Motorsteunen, oliekoelers en hogedrukleidingen
• Schroefasafdichtingen
• Gereviseerde warmtewisselaars
• Gereviseerde generator (ca. 400 uur)

De vaareigenschappen zijn uitstekend, met een kruissnelheid van 9 knopen bij 1950 tpm en een top van circa 10,5 knopen. Het brandstofverbruik ligt tussen de 9 en 18 liter per uur, wat een theoretische actieradius van circa 1.500 zeemijl geeft.


Tot slot zijn recent beide watertanks vervangen voor 750 liter polyester tanks, de dekken opnieuw gerubberd, antifauling en anodes vernieuwd en is het schip de afgelopen winters droog en overdekt gestald.

The Grand Banks 42 Europa 'LOTUS' is a classic and timeless Grand Banks and still one of the most sought-after models. 'LOTUS' is one of the youngest examples of the original 42 Europa design, before American Marine switched to a new mold and modified layout of, among other things, the aft deck and forward cabin.


In recent years, LOTUS has sailed the Mediterranean and made trips to Mallorca, Gibraltar, Morocco, Libya, and Tunisia, among other places. She has proven herself to be a seaworthy vessel; the +-3000 engine hours were largely accumulated during these longer voyages.


The equipment is tailored for serious offshore sailing, including:

• Backup electrical system
• Fire extinguishing system in the engine room
• Electric toilets
• Night lighting in the saloon
• EPIRB and Glendinning™ engine synchronization
• Towing anchor, tow rope, and extensive emergency signals (arrows, flares)
• Stock of spare parts (filters, gaskets, V-belts)

Since 2020, the ship has been owned by a Dutch owner (former ocean-going captain), who has carefully modernized it. For example, the navigation equipment has been renewed and the interior has been reupholstered. Technically, much has also been renewed on the Ford Sabre engines, including:

• Engine mounts, oil coolers, and high-pressure pipes
• Propeller shaft seals
• Reconditioned heat exchangers
• Reconditioned generator (approx. 400 hours)

The sailing characteristics are excellent, with a cruising speed of 9 knots at 1950 rpm and a top speed of approximately 10.5 knots. Fuel consumption is between 9 and 18 liters per hour, giving a theoretical range of approximately 1,500 nautical miles.


Finally, both water tanks have recently been replaced with 750-liter polyester tanks, the decks have been re-rubberized, the antifouling and anodes have been renewed, and the ship has been stored dry and covered during the past winters.
