In a country with thousands of lakes and a rugged archipelago coastline, a powerboat has to be able to "do it all" in ways that other yards and cruising grounds can afford to ignore. That's why Finnmaster mainly builds practical all-rounders: from the open center console to bowriders and day cruisers all the way to the sheltered pilot house boat.

Finland understandably has a somewhat different powerboat culture than the Mediterranean. People cruise, fish, swim and carry cargo between skerries and islands. Finnmaster's line-up is correspondingly broad: some models are open summer boats, others small cruisers, and others again, with their closed wheelhouses, are more reminiscent of compact workboats. Even so, a common denominator is clear: as much practical use as possible within a manageable boat length.
From the bowrider to the small SUV boat
At Finnmaster, the model range can almost be sorted by weather conditions. The R models are classic bowriders with a sheltered cockpit and an open bow area. The T series combines sporty handling with daycruiser comfort and the option to stay overnight.
Anyone who is often out in less friendly weather will end up with the Pilot range instead. Finnmaster itself now likes to call these models SUV boats – a term used just as freely in boatbuilding as it is on land, but one that at least fits the concept here.
Many small ideas instead of a big show
Typical of Finnmaster are not spectacular one-off innovations but countless practical details. Storage compartments disappear under seats, seating groups can be reconfigured, walkways are kept as clear as possible. That sounds unexciting – until you spend a few hours with several people on a seven-meter boat. Then a well-placed storage locker can suddenly be more interesting than the third styling line in the hull window. The hulls are tuned to Nordic conditions too – Finnmaster always tests its boats in the skerries right on the doorstep of its own yard.
T6, T7, T8 and T9: the sportier family
The T series makes up the part of the range aimed more at leisure and touring. It runs from the compact T6 through the T7 and T8 to the large T9. With cabins, generous galley solutions, large cockpits and sunbathing areas, the bigger models move a long way from the simple open powerboat. The T9 is now also available as a T-Top version with a fixed roof over the cockpit. That brings even the Finnish daycruiser a little closer to Mediterranean habits – just with more weather protection.
Pilot: when the weather doesn't play along
The Pilot 6, Pilot 7 and Pilot 8 have a character of their own. The closed wheelhouse makes them genuine multipurpose boats. The larger Pilot versions in particular offer berths and equipment for weekend trips. At the same time, wide side decks and an open aft cockpit are retained. Fishing, carrying gear or simply heading out in the rain are as much part of their remit as a summer family outing.
1990 – "Cast Off"
The brand is run by what is today Finnmaster Boats Oy. Its story began in 1990, when experienced boatbuilders Osmo Roukala and Jarmo Kinnunen founded the company Finn-Marin in the Kokkola region. The brand grew quickly and, over the following decades, developed an unusually large number of different models. Alongside small open boats came walkarounds, hardtops, cabin boats and larger cruisers.
The ownership history was less straightforward. Roukala and Kinnunen sold the company to financial investors in 2006 and bought it back after the financial crisis in 2009. In 2015, the Finnish industrial group Terra Patris took over 60 percent of Finn-Marin. In 2018, Oy Finn-Marin Ltd finally became Finnmaster Boats Oy.
Three Brands Under One Roof
Today, Finnmaster is only one part of the lineup. Three differently positioned brands are built under Finnmaster Boats. The original covers the broad market of GRP leisure boats. Husky stands for rugged aluminum boats, while Grandezza comprises larger and considerably more luxurious cruisers.
