We are selling our Malö 40 H, a solid and characterful Swedish-built cruising yacht with a practical layout, centre cockpit, and separate aft cabin. At under 10 metres, she offers an impressive amount of comfort and storage while remaining more manageable and economical than many larger cruising boats.
This is a boat with real blue-water capability and a warm, traditional interior. She has taken us safely on a long journey from Northern Germany to Greece, proving to be a reliable, comfortable home and travel companion throughout.
She is currently located in Lavrion, Greece, and is fully ready for her next owner.

Condition and recent maintenance
The boat has been regularly maintained and upgraded whenever needed. Key maintenance carried out recently includes:
Gearbox fully overhauled by Volvo Penta mechanics in Lavrion (February 2026)
Underwater hull serviced (October 2025)
Sails serviced and checked by a sailmaker (July 2024)
Batteries renewed (March 2025)
The engine is reliable and well-maintained. The boat has been actively used and loved, rather than sitting idle in a marina for long periods.
Known points / Future maintenance to plan
As with any 45-year-old classic, there are a few items a future owner should be aware of. We prefer to be fully transparent:
Teak deck seams: The teak itself is in very good condition, but the deck seams/caulking will likely need to be renewed within the next 2–3 years, as the black sealant is gradually becoming porous.
Cutlass bearing: There is slight play in the cutlass bearing. Two mechanics inspected it and agreed it is perfectly fine for another season, but replacement should be planned after that.
Electrical connection: There is a loose connection affecting some cockpit electronics and engine gauges. The essential sailing instruments (wind, depth, and speed) work reliably at all times. The intermittent issue mainly affects a few engine gauges and the electric Harken winch.
Gearbox oil inlet: Although the gearbox was professionally overhauled, there is a minor oil weep at the inlet. The oil loss is very small and manageable, but it should be monitored.
These points are already reflected in our asking price, and we are open to reasonable discussion with serious buyers.
Technical Details & Specifications
Engine & Propulsion
Engine: Volvo Penta MD17 (36 hp, 1982), approx. 1,500 hours. Exceptionally well-maintained and reliable.
Engine Maintenance: New alternator (10/2024), last oil change (12/2025), last impeller change (07/2025), fuel filters (primary and fine filter) last changed (06/2025).
Propulsion: Robust shaft drive with a 3-blade propeller.
Gearbox: Fully overhauled in February 2026.
Sails, Rigging & Deck Equipment
Sails: Main sail (approx. 19 m²) and Genoa (approx. 23 m²) in good condition (serviced/reworked by a professional sailmaker 07/2024). Self-tacking jib for easy single-handed handling. Gennaker/Blister (both in like-new condition).
Furling Systems: Seldén in-boom furling system for the main sail; Seldén Furlex roller furling for the Genoa.
Cockpit Winches: 2x Barbarossa; 1x Barient (self-tailing); 1x electric Harken winch (currently manual operation only due to the loose electrical connection, last serviced 06/2025). 3x winch handles.
Mast Winches: 2x winches mounted on the mast.
Rigging: Masthead rig. The mast was stepped and thoroughly inspected by a professional rigger in January 2025 (assessed as stable and in sound, long-lasting condition).
Mast Lowering: The mast foot is tabernacle/pivot-mounted – ideal for easy retrofitting of a mast-lowering system.
Teak Deck: In good structural condition (the boat has always been stored ashore and protected during winter).
Ground Tackle: 16 kg Plough (CQR) anchor with 30m of 10mm chain. 2x Stern anchors: 12 kg Plough anchor and 12 kg Danforth/Plate anchor with 10m of 8mm chain.
Additional: Spinnaker pole.
Electrics & Electronics
Batteries: Dolphin Pro maintenance-free batteries (New: 03/2025). Note: The two batteries are wired in parallel as a single bank supplying both engine start and domestic power.
Battery Charger: Victron charger (New: 03/2025).
Outlets: 4x 230V Schuko sockets, 4x USB, and 2x USB-C (double ports in the cabins and at the chart table).
VHF Radio: "Compass" VHF (New: 2024) with DSC/Distress button and MOB function.
Autopilot: Autohelm 3000 (functional but older system, best suited for light seas).
Instruments: Depth sounder, Wind gauge, and Simrad electronic compass.
Safety Equipment
Life Raft: 6-person life raft, ISO 9650-1 (Next recommended service: 07/2027).
Rescue: Life sling.
Pyrotechnics: 3x handheld flares (expiry 01/2029), 2x parachute rockets (expiry 05/2028).
