Koster Gaff-rigged Galeas s/y Elmy

Now you have the chance to acquire a charming and well-maintained 35-foot gaff-rigged Galeas built in oak in 1937, fully renovated in 1965. S/Y Elmy has sailed many years as a sailing school ship for young people and has 10 berths and is in the ship register SFC 8292 as a charter / school ship, but is also used as a leisure boat. She is most comfortable for family sailing with about 5 people. Hull in varnished oak and superstructure and deck in teak.

Elmy is well maintained by boat builders at Skeppsholmen, Stockholm and after 2014 with home port in Visby. She is available for viewing by appointment in Valdemarsvik.

History of



1954 rebuilt from fishing vessel with one mast to Galeas gaff rig with main and mizzen mast, 84 sqm sail, equipped with 2 tons led ballast for stability

The main Cargo hold turned in to a cabin and the small front Cargo hold turned in to a Galley with totally 5 bunks and later equipped with totally 9 bunks and extra Hammock

Charter Registered Swedish maritime authority as sailing School ship in the Skeppsholmsgården organization

Elmy had a black painted hull until 1960 but thereafter showing her beautiful varnished hull

Bottom and hull of oak original with nearly total exchanges - Between 1960-65 rebuilt with new 1,5 inch underwater oak planking except 2 plankings aft which still is in good shape, also new over waterline hull 1,5 inch oak planking, all ribs exchanged to new oak rib

1978 New Perkins Engine installed, new taller standing rig main mast

1989 New wooden oak keel and first keel planking and new oak wood in the Bow stem, improved with a bottom iron keel, 4 new keel stocks and stainless-steel keel bolts

Late 1990 main sail and mizen sail new

2000 New oak wood in the stern stem

About 2004 jib and flying jib new sails

2006 The deck changed to new Bangkok Teak to the hole deck
