MoonShadow was originally called "Fair Freedom" and had teak decks. We changed the name because . . . well, just because . . and we changed the decks because we had to. The original sandwich of steel, plywood and teak has been replaced (in 2018) by new steel, new plywood and a faux-teak finish. The new "teak" is better looking, cooler on the feet, insulates better, is considerably lower maintenance and ecologically more acceptable. The varnished teak superstructure requires about half a day's work every 6 months and overall upkeep on MoonShadow is remarkably easy.

NavigationNavigation AidsAutopilot: Original AutopilotDepth: Depth sounderVHF: VHF 2016Additional Navigation Information:Navigation equipment on MoonShadow is basic and antiquated. She has been, almost exclusively, on canals and rivers for the past 25 years. For a couple of coastal trips, we have used Navionics on an iPad combined with traditional piloting techniques. However, her original GPS and autopilot still work and she has a depth finder. The VHF was replaced in 2016.
