The IMS 40' project is based on the idea of a cruise and regatta-use boat.
This provides sufficient volume to make it comfortable on board, combined with a technology usually dedicated to one-off constructions, but at the same time with a non-extreme sailing plan.
The choice of a 40' was made as it is in this segment that in the IMS category is found the largest number of boats that regatta.
A measure that still allows you to have six comfortable seats, being able to choose between the two classic interior settings: two cabins with two bathrooms or three cabins with a bathroom; not least for a twelve meters some regulations facilitated by the Italian Naval Register.
The distribution of the immersed volumes follows the general trend of the modern IMS, which favors a reduced maximum glow, allowing to have very sharp input semiangles, accentuated even more by the wheel turn at the height of the waterline, between the forehand and the saddle (living work).
This IMS 40' has been optimized for light winds, has a high stern mirror and the appendages have been very well cared for, always in relation to IMS regulations. The kilo is distinguished by its large surface area.
For the realization of the rudder, not wanting to use the penalized carbon was studied an axis in glued aluminum slats. The blanket is characterized by the absence of the aft sheaves, this improves the longitudinal resistance of the whole, while also offering a greater volume available below deck.
The compartment needed for the stowage of the equipment was obtained at the bottom of the cockpit, in the central position.
Like all racing prototypes, the composite interior is also structural, a novelty to note is the particular glass structure that does not use the sandwich, but a monolithic sheet with variable thickness made with the technique of the traditional bandage.
The symmetrical subdivision of the furnishings then contributes to increase the total stiffness with the practical result of reducing the chain and thus improving the performance of the bolina.
The sail plan of this IMS 40' has been studied with relationships between the surface of the stray and the genoa, typical of a fractional armament.
You can then have a generous stray combined with small genoa and spinnakers that make it easier to navigate the bearing gaits. Under sail the boat seems to prefer an over-unveiled navigation with large and thin bow sails, which convey the power necessary to run the 5,800kg of this 40'.
